Job Summary:
Provides indirect patient care in the office/clinic setting. Greets and registers patients. Verifies patient demographic and insurance information. Performs clerical duties. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, office/clinic staff, and the medical staff. Participates in performance improvement activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules new and return appointments; can explain the registration process as needed and gives directions to new patients on how to get to the office location.
Registers all patients, gives new patients all appropriate medical, financial, privacy forms to complete.
Verifies patient demographic and insurance information. Updates information as needed.
Collects co-payments and/or balances of patients. Prints daily collections reports for billing.
Answers the telephone in a professional and courteous manner; takes messages; directs calls to appropriate staff members.
Collects faxes, emails, and other forms of communication information and appropriately stores, disposes, or responds to that information as needed; also does so in a timely manner.
Schedules diagnostic testing appointments with the hospital.
Inquiries and gathers prior authorization for services that will be rendered.
Prepares new patient paperwork for upcoming appointments.
Maintains logs of prior authorizations, referrals, and scheduled appointments.
Maintains a good working relationship with office/clinic staff members and physicians.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
- Adheres to dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state federal and CMS regulations.
- Reports to work on time on days they are scheduled to be on duty; completes work within that designated time on duty. Clocks in and out appropriately on the current operating system for timesheets.
- Wears identification while on duty.
- Attends facility wide staff meetings as required.
- Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the office/clinic.
- Actively participates in the department’s quality improvement CQI activities, attends committee and management meetings, as appropriate.
- Attends and participates in interdepartmental meetings and activities.
- Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with all physicians, all departments and all staff.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- One year experience in office setting or hospital setting.
- Experience with billing and insurance preferred.
Language Skills:
? Ability to communicate in English; both verbally and in writing.
? Additional languages preferred.
Skills:
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to type 40 words per minute.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD10 coding.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.

Work is conducted in a clinical setting requiring extended periods of time walking and standing.
