Dispatch Shipping Supervisor
Description

Tibbetts Lumber Co. LLC, a Lumber and Building materials employer, is seeking a full-time Dispatch Shipping Supervisor.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead daily yard operations, providing direction and support to the Lumber Yard Foreman, delivery drivers, forklift operators, and yard personnel. 
  • Coordinate and dispatch daily deliveries for trusses, lumber, millwork, windows, and other building materials, ensuring timely and accurate service. 
  • Plan and optimize delivery routes to maximize efficiency, minimize driver hours, reduce transportation costs, and meet customer delivery commitments. 
  • Process delivery billing accurately and promptly, ensuring all deliveries are invoiced no later than the day of delivery. 
  • Verify incoming freight by matching packing slips with purchase orders in the Tibbetts system and resolve any discrepancies. 
  • Monitor delivery schedules and provide timely updates to customers, sales staff, and management regarding delivery status and potential delays. 
  • Ensure all employees receive required safety training, equipment certifications, and ongoing instruction to perform their duties safely and effectively. 
  • Provide hands-on coaching and on-the-job training for direct reports, includingproduct identification and SKU knowledge for inventory stored in the yard and warehouse, safe material handling practices, housekeeping and yard organization and forklift operation and equipment safety. 
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings ("Safety Huddles") to reinforce company safety policies, discuss workplace hazards, and promote a culture of safety. 
  • Complete performance evaluations for direct reports, provide coaching and development plans, and recommend compensation adjustments based on performance. 
  • Conduct monthly inspections of company trucks, trailers, and yard equipment, review Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs), and coordinate preventative maintenance with fleet personnel. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard by ensuring loading and receiving areas remain free of debris and recyclable materials are properly sorted and disposed of. 
  • Identify, report, and promptly address safety hazards to maintain compliance with company policies and applicable regulations. 
  • Support inventory accuracy through proper material handling, storage, and receiving practices. 
  • Collaborate with sales, purchasing, operations, and management to ensure efficient workflow and exceptional customer service. 
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. 

Essential Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in lumber yard, warehouse, or building materials operations, including supervisory or leadership responsibilities preferred. 
  • Experience coordinating deliveries, dispatching drivers, and managing logistics in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred. 
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform effectively under pressure. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word). 
  • Experience with BisTrack (Epicor BisTrack), MiTek Management, or similar building materials software is preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of inventory control, shipping and receiving processes, and material handling best practices. 
  • Knowledge of load securement, weight distribution, and legal load limits. 
  • Basic mathematical skills, including counting, measuring, estimating, and inventory calculations. 
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification within 30 days of employment. 
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not required. 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop employees. 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. 

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. 
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and humidity. 
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, push, pull, and perform other physical tasks throughout the workday. 
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, yard equipment, and other material-handling machinery.
