Community Progress Council, Inc. is looking for passionate Assistant Teachers to support Head Start classrooms across York County. In this role, you’ll partner with the Lead Teacher to deliver engaging, high-quality learning experiences that spark creativity, curiosity, and a love of learning—while maintaining a safe, healthy classroom environment.
You’ll also help build strong family connections by involving parents and volunteers in meaningful classroom activities, supporting the growth of both children and their families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mission-Driven: Champion the vision of Head Start and Community Progress Council in all you do.
- Collaborative Planning: Work with teachers and families to create engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Positive Classroom Culture: Maintain a safe, clean, and inclusive environment where every child feels valued.
- Classroom Support: Prepare materials and adapt activities to meet the needs of all learners.
- Family Engagement: Partner with families through conferences, home visits, and individualized planning.
- Child Development: Support assessments and collaborate with families and community resources to meet each child’s needs.
- Documentation: Keep accurate records of lesson plans, observations, and health checks.
- Community Outreach: Promote the value of Head Start within the community.
- Professionalism: Maintain confidentiality and model positive behavior for families and volunteers.
- Teamwork: Contribute to committees and initiatives that strengthen program success.
- Growth Mindset: Pursue ongoing learning to stay current in early childhood best practices.

Education and Qualifications:
- Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED, plus at least one year in a preschool or elementary setting.
- Certification: Earn your Child Development Associate (CDA) within two years—Head Start will support you.
- Communication: Strong English reading and speaking skills; bilingual (Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Arabic) is a plus.
- People Skills: Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families, and diverse communities.
- Child Development Knowledge: Understand basic development and effective behavior strategies.
- Tech Skills: Comfortable with Microsoft Office (preferred).
- Professionalism: Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
