The Facilities Engineer will serve as the technical authority responsible for the design, standards development, lifecycle management, expansion planning, and operational support of FiberLight's network facilities infrastructure. This includes Points of Presence (POPs), regeneration facilities, roadside cabinets, data center deployments, shelters, power systems, generators, battery systems, telemetry networks, environmental monitoring, and physical security systems.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience designing and supporting critical telecommunications infrastructure, developing facility standards, managing power augmentation projects, and supporting large-scale carrier and hyperscale deployments. This role will collaborate closely with Strategic Engineering, Network Engineering, Operations, Service Delivery, Sales Engineering, and the Network Operations Center (NOC) to ensure FiberLight facilities are scalable, resilient, secure, and capable of supporting future network growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and govern engineering standards for all FiberLight network facilities including:
- Roadside Right-of-Way (RoW) cabinets
- Cabinet regeneration facilities
- Communications shelters
- Data center deployments
- Large-scale hyperscale and carrier infrastructure facilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert for all facility-related infrastructure including:
- Commercial power systems
- DC power plants
- Battery systems
- Generator systems
- Environmental controls
- Telemetry and monitoring systems
- Physical security systems
- Camera and access control systems
- Design and support facility infrastructure for network expansion projects, new market deployments, regeneration facilities, and major customer initiatives.
- Develop standard facility architectures, bill of materials templates, engineering specifications, construction guidelines, and deployment methodologies.
- Establish power capacity planning standards, augmentation policies, utilization thresholds, and lifecycle management processes.
- Lead facility power studies, load analysis, battery runtime calculations, and generator sizing activities.
- Develop and manage battery replacement strategies, maintenance schedules, testing procedures, and end-of-life replacement programs.
- Design and oversee generator deployments including site readiness, fuel planning, maintenance contracts, testing programs, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with Strategic Engineering and Network Engineering teams to ensure facility designs support current and future transport, IP, and optical network requirements.
- Support pre-sales activities by providing technical guidance to Sales Engineering, Product Management, and executive leadership regarding facility capabilities, power availability, space planning, and deployment feasibility.
- Participate in customer meetings supporting strategic opportunities, hyperscale deployments, carrier interconnection projects, and large-scale infrastructure initiatives.
- Develop standards and policies governing telemetry networks, environmental monitoring systems, remote management platforms, and facility observability.
- Coordinate with the NOC to establish monitoring requirements, alarm thresholds, escalation procedures, and operational response processes.
- Lead data center space planning initiatives including:
- New deployments
- Cage buildouts
- Cabinet expansion projects
- Facility consolidations
- Growth forecasting and capacity planning
- Evaluate existing facility footprints and develop long-term expansion strategies supporting network growth and customer demand.
- Manage vendor relationships involving facility construction, power systems, generators, battery vendors, security providers, and data center operators.
- Support disaster recovery planning, business continuity initiatives, and facility resiliency programs.
- Develop engineering documentation, standards manuals, low-level designs, construction packages, maintenance procedures, and operational best practices.
- Participate in major incident response efforts involving facility outages, commercial power failures, generator events, environmental alarms, and critical infrastructure failures.
- Support after-hours maintenance activities and provide escalation support during facility-related emergencies as required.
- Maintain facility documentation including facility layouts, rack face diagrams, and power and environmental operations for each facility.
- 8+ years of experience in telecommunications, critical infrastructure, facilities engineering, electrical engineering, or network infrastructure environments.
- Extensive experience supporting telecommunications POPs, regeneration facilities, data centers, carrier hotels, or mission-critical infrastructure environments.

- Strong understanding of power plant sizing, load calculations, battery reserve calculations, and facility capacity planning.
- Experience developing engineering standards, design templates, construction specifications, and operational procedures.
- Knowledge of physical security systems including cameras, access control systems, intrusion detection, and site hardening methodologies.
- Experience coordinating construction projects, power upgrades, generator installations, and facility expansion initiatives.
- Familiarity with carrier-class network infrastructure and operational requirements supporting optical transport, DWDM, IP, and Ethernet networks.
- Strong understanding of facility resiliency, redundancy design, disaster recovery, and business continuity principles.
- Experience working with field operations teams, contractors, utility providers, data center operators, and equipment vendors.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple infrastructure initiatives simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, engineering organizations, operations teams, vendors, and customers.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience supporting carrier, ISP, fiber network, or hyperscale infrastructure environments.
- Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP), BICSI, or equivalent industry certifications.
- Experience with data center design standards and best practices.
- Familiarity with utility coordination, permitting, and site acquisition activities.
- Experience supporting large-scale hyperscale customer deployments and critical infrastructure environments.
