**This position is Temporary to start - will re-evaluate after 90 days** The maintenance technician for a recovery house is responsible for ensuring that the facility is safe, functional, and well-maintained. The role is critical in creating a comfortable, clean, and safe environment for individuals undergoing recovery, often in residential or outpatient settings. Here are key responsibilities and skills for the position: 


Duties and Responsibilities:

Facility Maintenance:

  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.).
  • Handle minor repairs and coordinate major repairs or replacements.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of communal areas, including living rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms.

Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations, including fire safety, emergency exits, and equipment inspections.
  • Conduct regular checks of fire alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and other safety equipment.
  • Manage emergency repair requests in a timely manner.

Preventative Maintenance:

  • Regularly inspect and maintain the facility’s HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Change air filters, clean ducts, and maintain heating and cooling systems to ensure optimal functioning.
  • Handle painting, carpentry, and landscaping as needed.

Equipment Management:

  • Maintain and repair household appliances, furniture, and fixtures to ensure they are in good working order.
  • Manage and track maintenance supplies and tools.

Support During Program Activities:

  • Provide support for special events, group activities, or community engagement within the house, ensuring space readiness.
  • Adjust living arrangements and space configurations as required by the facility’s recovery programs.
Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, and general building maintenance.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues quickly.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensure repairs are done thoroughly and equipment is fully functional.
  • Communication: Work closely with staff and residents to address maintenance issues and requests.
  • Time Management: Manage multiple tasks and ensure that urgent issues are prioritized.

  • Sensitivity to the needs of the residents, understanding that the recovery house is a place of healing, which requires maintaining a calm and respectful environment.
  • The ability to work with diverse teams and residents, including understanding confidentiality and privacy within a recovery setting.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The work is typically performed, in a warehouse/shop environment and around the interior and exterior of the facility, where the noise level is moderate to loud and environmental conditions may include fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, work in high precarious places.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with support and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with support. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk. The employee frequently is required to stand; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stand, talk, or hear, and use hands to ginger, handle and feel. Ability to work in adverse conditions safely. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and taste or smell.
