Position: Shop Worker
Store: Watertown
Reports to: Yard Foreman
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
HOURS:
- Minimum 30 hrs per week.
- Flexible to the needs of Whites Lumber, Inc.
- Must be able to work weekends as needed.
General Summary:
Performs skilled millwork and countertop work under minimal supervision and direction. Work is usually performed independently and in accordance with standard practices of the trade.
Job Duties:
- Reviews pending work orders and establish dates of completion.
- Insure adequate supply of raw materials to complete pending work orders by checking quantities on hand.
- Estimate materials needed for pending jobs and time to complete jobs.
- Perform job tasks efficiently and effectively by grouping different job orders with similar job requirements.
- Perform multitasked assignments on an as needed basis to insure highest level of productivity.
- Maintain tools used in the shop.
- Adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
- Operate power saws, band saws, shapers, joiners, planers and hand tool as per manufacturers specifications.
- Maintain file on all completed orders.
- Maintains cleanliness of the shop and assigned areas.
- Promotes positive interaction with customers by answering customers questions accurately.
- Will only perform work orders for customers that have a completed white’s lumber order form.
- Maintains a high level of quality control on work performed by inspecting work to insure it meets customer specifications.
Education:
Graduation from high school, vocational school or equivalent providing knowledge, skills abilities required for the performance of duties.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to make accurate estimates of time and material.
- Skilled in the use of the tools, materials and equipment used in the carpentry and countertop trade.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Prolong Periods of Standing.
- Occasional lifting of items up to and over 100 lbs.
- Using hands, reaching above shoulders.
