We are seeking a visionary Marketing Director to lead multi-faceted marketing efforts for the North Tahoe Community Alliance, North Tahoe Chamber, and Lake Tahoe Travel. Together, these three distinct efforts drive community vitality, economic health and resiliency, and destination stewardship across North Lake Tahoe.
This role is responsible for crafting compelling narratives that inspire travel, building strategic partnerships across the tourism ecosystem, and leading integrated campaigns that turn awareness into economic impact. You will serve as the chief storyteller and brand steward for our destination, working closely with hospitality partners, local businesses, government stakeholders, and media to position North Lake Tahoe as a vibrant community where stewardship fuels a thriving economy, protects our natural environment, and enhances the Tahoe experience for all.
Key Responsibilities
Brand Leadership
- Oversee brand strategy, positioning, messaging, and visual identity across the North Tahoe Community Alliance, North Tahoe Chamber, and Lake Tahoe Travel brands.
- Ensure consistency of brand standards across all internal and partner-facing communications.
- Translate complex community initiatives, public investments, and destination stewardship programs into clear and compelling communications for residents, businesses, visitors, and stakeholders.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, partner meetings, and tourism-related events, as well as on statewide committees and collaborations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with lodging, recreation, transportation, and community partners to advance destination-wide marketing initiatives on behalf of the North Tahoe Community Alliance, North Tahoe Chamber, and Lake Tahoe Travel.
Owned Media
- Develop and direct an annual strategic marketing plan across channels for the North Tahoe Community Alliance, the North Tahoe Chamber, and Lake Tahoe Travel, each with distinct roles in the community yet functioning within a collaborative ecosystem.
- Oversee development and content across websites, social media, and email channels on a daily, weekly, and seasonal basis.
- Develop content that supports ongoing community engagement, including but not limited to public talking points, visuals, presentations, and more.
- Oversee photography and videography to support all aspects of marketing.
- Develop the organization’s Annual Report.
- Support the Visitor Information Centers with collateral, window displays, publications, and more.
- Manage First Tuesday Breakfast Club topics, speakers, and outreach.
- Evaluate and implement emerging marketing technologies, digital tools, and AI-enabled solutions to improve efficiency, audience engagement, and reporting.
Earned & Paid Media
- Direct earned media efforts, including public relations and media inquiries.
- Direct paid media efforts, including strategy and campaign goals, development, placement, and evaluation.
- Direct the North Tahoe Chamber cooperative ad program to elevate local businesses.
- Support the creative work of the Revitalization Committee to bring our downtown cores to life.
- Support live and sponsored events with design and production of materials.
- Champion thought leadership within the Destination Stewardship Council around responsible tourism and human impact mitigation.
- Manage strategic partnerships around the Lake Tahoe basin, including community sponsorships.
Research, Data & Reporting
- Oversee annual research projects as well as ongoing monthly research platforms.
- Use visitor research, market intelligence, and tourism data to inform strategy and measure impact.
- Track key performance indicators on a monthly, quarterly, and seasonal basis.
- Present campaign results and strategic recommendations to the board of directors and community stakeholders.
Team & Budget Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of 2 marketing professionals across content, digital, PR, and partner marketing.
- Manage an annual marketing budget of $3 million across all pathways.
- Oversee agency and vendor relationships for media buying, creative production, and research.
Qualifications
Required
- 8+ years of marketing experience, with at least 3 years in destination marketing, hospitality, travel, or tourism.
- Deep understanding of the travel consumer journey and the unique dynamics of destination marketing organizations (DMOs) or convention & visitors bureaus (CVBs).
- Proven ability to develop and execute brand campaigns that drive measurable economic impact.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups, including government entities, private sector partners, and community organizations.
- Strong skills in digital marketing, content strategy, and data analytics platforms.
- Excellent communicator and public speaker, comfortable presenting to boards, media, and large audiences.
- Knowledge of destination stewardship, sustainable tourism, and regenerative travel principles.
- North Lake Tahoe experience and knowledge preferred.
