SHOP SUPERVISOR
Description

JOB SUMMARY

Coordinate, supervise and participate in the repair and servicing of Milford assets, trucks, trailers and other gas and diesel- powered equipment. Assist in the implementation of departmental improvements while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the mechanic shop. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Scheduling employees’ shifts and ensuring that they are covered during holidays or other times when they are not able to work.
  2. Maintaining a safe work environment by enforcing safety regulations and addressing hazards.
  3. Managing inventory levels and ordering supplies as needed.
  4. Handling customer complaints and resolving issues quickly to increase customer satisfaction and loyalty
  5. Ensures that an accurate inventory record of finished goods is maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  6. Oversees receipt and verification of incoming shipments; ensures materials are unloaded, stored, and verified according to policy.
  7. Conducts regular inventory checks, random checks on at least a weekly basis, and thorough checks on at least a monthly basis.
  8. Performs repairs and maintenance for company vehicles and equipment.
  9. Hires and trains shop employees.
  10. Keep shop in good working order.
  11. Order all shop supplies
  12. Transfer equipment to other locations.
  13. Preventative maintenance on company vehicles (get oil changes, tire rotations, and send for repairs).
  14. Oversees the daily workflow of equipment through the preventive maintenance and repair process
  15. Determine priority of work orders and their assignment to personnel; plan, organize and schedule workflow of employees as assigned; advise and assist assigned personnel; assure timely completion of work.
  16. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  17. Other duties as assigned.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Basic proficiency of reading and writing of the English language.
  2. Leadership skills with the ability to delegate, motivate and inspire team members
  3. Ability to read service and repair manuals.
  4. Ability to use hand and power tools.
  5. Knowledge of tools, equipment and procedures used in the general overhaul, repairs, and maintenance of equipment.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of work safety habits.
  7. Ability to professionally represent the company.
  8. Able to work on-call (on short notice when required) and extended hours (including after hours and weekends).
  9. Attention to detail - meticulous.
  10. Ability to keep accurate records.
  11. Excellent mechanical skills.
  12. Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  13. Thorough understanding of stores procedures and policies.
  14. Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
  15. Able to identify dangerous conditions and act accordingly
  16. Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  17. Ability to interact effectively with customers
  18. Ability to work individually and with a team.
  19. Can safely operate pickup truck/trailer combinations 
  • Truck, bumper pull, gooseneck, specialty trailer


WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. Enclosed warehouse and outdoor storage yard. 
  2. Occasional high noise level, dust, fumes such as fuel or exhaust may be encountered. 
  3. Sometimes exposed inclement weather while working outside or driving vehicle.
  4. Occasionally exposed to bright or dim lighting conditions while driving.
  5. Ability to work around moving equipment. 


SCHEDULE: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm with the ability to work extended hours when required by Rental Fleet Supervisor.

Requirements

DRUG TESTING REQUIRMENTS: This position is subject to PHMSA drug testing in accordance with Milford policies. 

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a valid driver’s license and must pass MVR requirements in accordance with Milford policies. 

BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENTS: This position is subject to a third-party position specific background check in accordance with Milford policies and procedures


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION:

  1. At least three years of mechanic experience, highly preferred.
  2. Two (2) year of supervisor experience, preferred. 
  3. Must be able to obtain a forklift license within 30 days of employment
  4. Must be certified in McElroy fusion for small, medium, and large diameters or ability to pass certifications within 14 days


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to stand, sit, stoop, reach with arms, kneel and push/pull/lift 50 pounds.
  2. Ability to walk long distances in rough terrain.
  3. Stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, climbing ramps or stairs.
  4. Must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection. 
  5. Ability to wear PPE.
  6. Must be able to physically perform repairs.
  7. Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
  8. Good vision to inspect repair work.
  9. Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, lay and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
  10. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  11. Reaching overhead, at or below shoulder level.
  12. Keyboarding.
  13. Driving (and ability to maintain valid driver’s license and pass MVR in accordance with insurance requirements)
  14. Sitting for long periods of time.
  15. Standing for extended periods of time.
