Director of HR
Build the structure. Keep the heart.
Community Impact is looking for a Director of HR to help lead our people function, someone who can build real structure without slowing anything down. This is our senior HR seat: part strategic partner to leadership, part hands-on operator who owns full-cycle employee relations, compensation, and benefits. We're a small but mighty team, and we need someone who thrives close to the work.
2M mailboxes a month — the company you'll help build for
Two-person HR team — real ownership, not a lot of red tape
$105–115K hiring range based on experience
What You’d Do
Strategic HR & Leadership
- Analyze HR policies and practices and bring forward changes when something isn't working.
- Act as the go-between for HR and the rest of the company, translating strategy into practices people actually understand.
- Translate business goals into actionable HR initiatives, including performance management systems and workforce planning.
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Be the first call when an employee or manager has a concern. Lead full employee lifecycle.
- Own leave administration, including FMLA, and keep our policies aligned with federal and state law.
- Keep the employee handbook current and make sure policy actually matches practice.
Total Rewards
- Oversee compensation planning and benefits administration.
- Back up for payroll as needed.
Talent, Performance & Culture
- Support workforce planning, hiring strategy, onboarding, and the performance review cycle.
- Drive culture initiatives and champion diversity and inclusion, not as a once-a-year push but as part of how we operate.
- Manage, mentor, and guide the People Operations Specialist to ensure seamless HR service delivery, including building and delivering training on HR topics and guiding the team through change management as we grow.
Culture & Continuous Improvement
- Model CI's values and Core 10 competencies in every interaction, not just the ones people are watching.
- Look for ways to cut friction out of HR processes and put new tools, including AI, to work.
- Other duties as assigned.
You’ll Thrive Here If You
- Are a strong generalist with real depth in employee relations, compensation, and benefits
- Handle complex employee relations situations with a steady, fair hand
- Know payroll well enough to catch a problem, even if you're not the one running it
- Like being hands-on, this is a two-person HR team, and this role is in it, not above it
- Bring structure to a fast-moving, still-scaling company
What We Value
- Faith — Resilience, Mission Alignment
- Passion — Drive / Hustle, Positive Attitude
- Quality — High Standards, Follow-Through
- Innovation — Adaptability, Creative Problem Solving
- Integrity — Ownership, Doing the Right Thing
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with real time spent as an HR Generalist or HRBP.
- Hands-on experience running full-cycle payroll and managing FMLA or other leave administration.
- Strong business acumen and the confidence to coach and influence managers, up to and including leadership.
- Solid working knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and conflict resolution.
- Comfortable producing job descriptions, policies, and other HR documents that hold up on their own.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and HR/HRIS systems.
Nice to Have
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
- Experience with Paylocity or a comparable HRIS/payroll platform.
- Prior experience building or formalizing an HR function at a small or growing company.
