Crate Operator - 1st Shift

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OR SUMMARY

Responsible for building, preparing, inspecting, and handling crates used for packaging and transporting glass products safely and efficiently.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Build and assemble wooden crates, skids, and packaging materials according to specifications. 
  • Measure, cut, and prepare materials using hand and power tools. 
  • Inspect crates and packaging materials for quality and structural integrity. 
  • Read work orders, packaging instructions, and shipping documents accurately. 
  • Operate equipment such as nail guns, saws, forklifts, pallet jacks, and banding tools as authorized. 
  • Label and prepare finished crates for shipment. 
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas following housekeeping standards. 
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including proper handling of glass materials. 
  • Report damaged materials, safety hazards, or equipment issues to supervision. 
  • Assist with inventory and material movement as needed. 
  • Work collaboratively with production, quality, and shipping departments 
Requirements

  

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATIONAL SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Consistent work history in glass manufacturing or warehouse setting preferred
  • Previous manufacturing, packaging, woodworking, or glass industry experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs
  • Climbing/ Manipulation/Reaching/Push/Pull/Grip/Pinch
  • Ability to read tape measures and follow detailed instructions.
  • Basic math and measurement skills.
  • Forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift.
  • Frequently lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work around glass products and manufacturing equipment safely.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential function of this job.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.
  • Manufacturing and warehouse setting.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures. 
  • Fast-paced production environment with safety-sensitive tasks.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 6am-2pm
