Description

Job Summary:

Lead complex sourcing, contract manufacturing, and supplier development initiatives while managing assigned purchasing categories. This position serves as a key resource in expanding DMC's outsourcing strategy by identifying, qualifying, and developing manufacturing suppliers, supporting new product development, improving supplier performance, and expanding DMC's outsourced manufacturing capabilities. The Senior Buyer is expected to remain an active member of the Purchasing team by managing assigned purchasing responsibilities while providing leadership and support for sourcing and outsourcing initiatives.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage assigned purchasing categories through Material Requirements Planning (MRP) analysis, supplier management, inventory planning, and purchase order management.
  • Lead sourcing and outsourcing initiatives for machined components and other manufactured products, including identifying opportunities to improve cost, lead time, quality, capacity, and operational efficiency through contract manufacturing.
  • Work closely with Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to identify, evaluate, qualify, and develop manufacturing suppliers for new products, manufacturing transfers, outsourcing initiatives, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Negotiate pricing, commercial agreements, and long-term supply arrangements.
  • Monitor supplier performance and work with Quality and suppliers to resolve delivery, quality, capacity, and supplier performance issues, including participation in supplier audits and supplier development activities.
  • Mentor and support Buyers and other Purchasing personnel in sourcing, supplier development, and contract manufacturing activities.
  • Assist Purchasing personnel with routine purchasing responsibilities, requisitions, outside processing, and other departmental activities during periods of increased workload or business need.
  • Travel to supplier facilities as required to perform supplier evaluations, audits, supplier development, project support, and relationship management.
  • Assist the Supply Chain Manager with strategic sourcing, supplier development, outsourcing initiatives, departmental projects, and other duties as assigned.


Requirements
  • Minimum five years of progressive purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous experience sourcing machined components and working with a variety of manufacturing processes is required. Experience with machining, casting, forging, molding, stamping, heat treating, plating, anodizing, or similar manufacturing methods strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, qualifying, and developing manufacturing suppliers.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications. Experience with Infor Syteline a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Planning, Manufacturing, and Operations.
  • Strong work ethic, sound judgment, and willingness to support departmental priorities as business needs require.
