Position Summary
We are seeking a versatile and driven Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Concord, CA. In this role, you will bridge the gap between core mechanical engineering and industrial automation. You will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and integrating mechanical components, plant layouts, piping systems, and control enclosures that support comprehensive plant upgrades and automation solutions. This position requires a balance of innovative office design work and hands-on field testing and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- System & Component Design: Design mechanical layouts, custom enclosures, structural supports, and piping systems utilizing 3D CAD software to integrate seamlessly with industrial electrical and automation components.
- Project Lifecycle Management: Manage mechanical scopes of work from initial client consultation and requirement gathering through detailed design, prototyping, and final implementation.
- Field Engineering & Integration: Travel to local and regional client sites to perform physical site assessments, verify field measurements, and support the mechanical commissioning of upgraded industrial systems.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Controls, Automation, and Electrical Engineers to deliver unified, "Industry 4.0" ready plant solutions and compressor station upgrades.
- Quality & Compliance: Conduct tolerance, stress-strain, and thermal analyses to ensure all designs meet structural integrity standards and comply with relevant national, local, OSHA, and NFPA safety regulations.
- Documentation: Generate comprehensive technical documentation, including detailed manufacturing drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), standard operating procedures, and design verification reports.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical design, structural layout, or plant engineering (experience within industrial manufacturing, processing plants, or automation environments is highly preferred).
- Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in 3D CAD platforms (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or AutoCAD) and a solid grasp of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Core Competencies: Strong working knowledge of mechanics, materials science, fluid dynamics, and fabrication methods (machined parts, sheet metal, and structural steel).
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and present technical solutions to clients.
- Mobility: Possession of a valid driver’s license and the willingness to travel occasionally to domestic client sites for field engineering tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or active EIT status on the path to licensure.
- Familiarity with the structural packaging of PLCs, motor control circuits, and industrial control panels.
- Experience working on large-scale utility, pipeline, or industrial plant renovation projects.
