Function
In collaboration with and under the direction of the TCB Corridor Manager, support the day-to-day operations of the Taking Care of Business TCB Ambassadors program by helping coordinate field activities that maintain clean, welcoming commercial corridors in Kensington, Port Richmond, and Fishtown. Work alongside Ambassador teams to complete corridor cleaning, public trash can maintenance, litter and debris removal, power washing, beautification, and the upkeep of streets, sidewalks, and public spaces.
Serve as a field lead and point of contact for Ambassadors during daily operations by helping organize routes, assignments, coverage, equipment, supplies, and safety practices. Monitor route completion and field conditions, communicate operational needs or barriers to the TCB Corridor Manager, and support accurate documentation of program activities, including bag totals, photos, maintenance needs, incident reports, inventory requests, and other required updates. Additionally, support the TCB Manager in ensuring compliance with program requirements, performance standards, reporting obligations, budgeting, and invoicing.

This position is 100% funded by TCB (Taking Care of Business Funds).
The position and the funding for it will be reviewed annually in line with our fiscal calendar year (July 1).

Responsibilities
Corridor Maintenance, Field Operations & Daily Coordination
- Perform corridor cleaning, litter and debris removal, bag pickup, dumping, power washing, and beautification work alongside team members. Note: the TCB Coordinator will be expected to be working in the field approximately 80% of the time.
- Maintain NKCDC-owned trash cans and corridor street furniture in public spaces.
- Lead daily TCB Ambassadors routes, assignments, and coverage in collaboration with the TCB Manager, while providing guidance, support, and problem-solving in the field and adjusting tasks as needed to maintain reliable service.
- Assist with monitoring attendance, productivity, and route completion. Conduct field inspections and quality control reviews, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Communicate route challenges, service needs, delays, safety concerns, and other operational barriers to TCB Manager in a timely manner.
- Track operational concerns, document field conditions and code violations, submit photos to 3-1-1 when appropriate, and complete operational reporting such as bag totals, route photos, incident reports, inventory and uniform requests, maintenance logs, and daily updates.
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements and communicate with the funder (City of Philadelphia Commerce Department) as appropriate.
Vehicle & Equipment Operations
- Safely operate vehicles and equipment including UTVs, pickup trucks, and dump trucks.
- Conduct basic vehicle and equipment checks before and after use, report incidents, report maintenance or safety concerns promptly, and assist with tracking service needs and equipment usage.
- Help maintain the inventory, organization, cleanliness, and accountability of tools, equipment, uniforms, protective gear, and supplies.
Community Engagement, Outreach & Special Projects
- Support the Economic Development Department by being a bridge in building relationships with business and property owners.
- Collaborate with TCB Corridor Manager and other NKCDC departments as assigned and needed.
Team Leadership & Accountability
- Assist the TCB Manager in developing corridor schedules and work plans and establishing corridor performance goals.
- Lead by example through professionalism, reliability, communication, teamwork, and respectful conduct.
- Reinforce expectations for attendance, communication, safety practices, documentation, work completion, and professionalism.
- Support onboarding, training, and coaching for TCB Ambassadors on corridor maintenance standards, safety practices, and proper tool and equipment use.
- Address day-to-day performance or conduct concerns, elevate issues related to policy compliance, safety incidents, or workplace conflict, and help maintain a respectful, inclusive, and supportive work environment.
- Support with field supervision of Lead TCB Ambassadors and TCB Ambassadors.
- Help monitor program outcomes and suggest operational improvements.
- Provide input to TCB Manager in developing staff advancement plans.
Grant Execution & Compliance
- Support compliance with grant terms, program requirements, reporting obligations, and invoicing processes.
- Assist with preparing grant reports, payment requests, and other required documentation.
- Support grant applications, renewals, and related administrative tasks as needed.
Compensation
The pay rate for this position is $64,427.28/yr. with a full-time schedule, 35 work hours per week. To counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, we use a non-negotiable starting salary system, while benchmarking our pay to competitive markets in the nonprofit sector. Excellent benefits include an HMO health plan, long- and short-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid time off, and a 403(b)-retirement plan. - Previous field work experience, such as cleaning, maintenance, construction, landscaping, sanitation, or similar hands-on work.
- Basic knowledge of corridor maintenance, street cleaning, minor repairs, trash maintenance, and safe use of related tools and equipment is required.
- Previous supervisory, crew lead, or team support experience is preferred, including experience helping coordinate daily assignments, coaching coworkers, reinforcing expectations, or supporting accountability in the field.
- Experience with basic operational reporting, staff documentation, recordkeeping, inventory tracking, transportation logs, vehicle or equipment tracking, or similar administrative responsibilities is preferred.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, business owners, property owners, residents, community organizations, funders, and other stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercise sound judgment in the field, and know when to elevate concerns to the TCB Corridor Manager, leadership, or Human Resources.
- Familiarity with commercial corridors in Kensington, Fishtown, and Port Richmond is a plus.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying items such as trash bags, tools, supplies, or street furniture.
- Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds and walk or stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, with occasional exposure to noise and other environmental factors.
- Comfort using smartphones, Microsoft Office tools, Outlook email, and digital reporting platforms to document field conditions, submit photos, track service needs, and complete operational updates.
- Ability to operate basic equipment for corridor cleaning and trash maintenance, such as power washers, trash carts, cleaning tools, and related field equipment.
- Experience with inventory management, transportation logs, vehicle or equipment tracking, or similar operational systems is a plus.
