Position Summary:

A Plastic Surgery RN is a versatile nurse who manages the entire patient care journey—from pre-op preparation to post-op recovery—ensuring both physical and emotional support, while maintaining high surgical and patient safety standards. Provides professional nursing care for the comfort and well-being of patients. Prepares equipment and assists physician during examinations and treatments. Administers prescribed medications, changes dressings, clean wounds, and monitors vital signs. Observes and maintains records on patient care, condition, reaction, and progress. 


Key Results Areas (KRAs):

· Review patient health history, medications, allergies, and consent forms.

· Perform pre-surgical assessments and educate patients on procedures, recovery expectations, and aftercare.

· Prepare the patient physically and emotionally for surgery.

· Patient Triage and Assessment, including in-clinic nurse visits, phone calls, and Epic patient portal messages

· Assisting Physicians with in-office patient procedures, , including room setup and assistance

· Exam room readiness

· Prescription renewal process

· Surgery coordination, including working with multiple hospital OR systems, co-surgeon offices, physician and patient schedules

· Monitor wound healing, manage incisions, drains, and pain control.

· Watch for complications such as bleeding, infection, or poor healing.

· Provide post-operative instructions and answer patient questions.

· Coordinate follow-up appointments and care plans.

· Postoperative care and follow-up

· Equipment availability and effectiveness

· Pre-certification/authorization effectiveness

· Effective telephone triage

· HIPPA/regulatory compliance

· Team effectiveness

· Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, 

· Knowledge of nursing, anatomy, physiology and medical terminology

· Knowledge of equipment, sterilize techniques and procedures of treatment

· Knowledge of OSHA regulations

· Knowledge and application of medical chart requirements

· Ability to read charts to ensure lab tests and reports are included for physician review

· Medical assessment skills

· Knowledge of IDX system - Scheduling / Registration

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Requirements

Education & Experience:

· Requires RN Certification and State of TN or compact state licensure Required

· Bachelor of Science degree (BSN) or associate degree Preferred 

· Proven experience in clinic or hospital setting Preferred

· 1-2 years’ experience in surgical specialty area Preferred 

· Experience in wound care, post-operative care and coordinating in office procedures Preferred

· Knowledge of nursing, anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
