The Field Technician I supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical systems in the field. This entry-level position assists senior technicians and foremen with brazing, welding, and installing components such as piping, valves, control panels, and instrumentation. The role provides hands-on technical exposure and training in preparation for advancement to Field Technician II.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assembly, installation, and repair of piping systems, tanks, valves, and control equipment.
  • Support brazing, TIG/MIG welding, and fabrication tasks under supervision.
  • Help install and terminate basic electrical components including sensors, switches, relays, and low-voltage wiring.
  • Follow electrical and mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Perform equipment setup, calibration, and functional testing with direction from senior technicians.
  • Maintain tools, consumables, and work vehicles in clean, organized condition.
  • Observe and comply with all company and customer safety procedures, including use of PPE and lockout/tagout.
  • Accurately complete daily field reports, timesheets, and work documentation.
  • Travel to job sites, customer facilities, and remote field locations as required.
  • Participate in on-the-job training to develop welding, brazing, and electrical troubleshooting skills.

Work Environment

  • Primarily field-based at customer or project sites.
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, and varying weather.
  • Required use of PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing.
Requirements

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school or vocational training in welding, electrical, or mechanical systems preferred.
  • 0–2 years of relevant field or industrial experience.
  • Basic proficiency in welding (TIG/MIG preferred) and brazing techniques.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits, control wiring, and schematic interpretation.
  • Ability to use power tools, hand tools, and measuring instruments safely.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor or industrial conditions.
