Resource Teacher (Library & Media)

Position Summary

The Resource Teacher (Library & Media) serves students in Kindergarten through 8th grade by providing instruction and engagement through library services, digital literacy, and computer-based learning. This role supports student growth by fostering a love for reading, developing research and technology skills, and creating a Christ-centered environment where students learn to use their knowledge and gifts to glorify God.

Key Responsibilities

Library & Literacy Engagement

  • Manage and maintain the school library, including organization, circulation, and inventory of materials
  • Promote a love of reading through book talks, reading programs, and classroom library visits
  • Assist students in selecting age-appropriate and engaging reading materials
  • Support literacy development across all grade levels

Media & Technology Instruction

  • Provide developmentally appropriate instruction in computer skills and digital literacy for K–8 students
  • Teach foundational to intermediate skills such as typing, research, online safety, and basic applications
  • Guide students in responsible and ethical use of technology
  • Support classroom teachers with technology integration

Student Engagement & Instruction

  • Create structured, engaging lessons during scheduled library and media times
  • Encourage curiosity, independent learning, and critical thinking
  • Adapt instruction to meet a wide range of developmental levels

Program Development

  • Coordinate reading initiatives, book fairs, and special events that promote literacy and learning
  • Support school-wide programs and projects involving research or technology
  • Maintain a welcoming and engaging library/media center environment

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with teachers and administration to support curriculum needs
  • Communicate with parents and staff regarding resources and student engagement
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events

Spiritual Leadership

  • Model Christ-like character in all interactions
  • Integrate biblical principles into lessons and student interactions
  • Encourage students to use knowledge and technology in ways that honor God


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Library Science, Technology, or related field (preferred)
  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students
  • Strong understanding of literacy development and basic educational technology
  • Excellent organizational and classroom management skills
  • A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Agreement with the mission and values of University Christian School

Preferred Qualifications

  • Florida Teaching Certificate or eligibility
  • Experience in a school library or media center setting
  • Familiarity with educational technology platforms and tools

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, move, and interact with students throughout the day
  • Ability to organize and lift books, materials, and equipment as needed

Work Schedule

  • Full-time, 10-month position aligned with the school calendar
