SUMMARY:  

A Special Education Paraprofessional will support the students and service providers within the Special Education Department.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Duties and assignments may vary based on school assignment. 

 

A Special Education Paraprofessional will: 

  • Provide instruction to small groups in resource room under the direction of Learning Specialist
  • Pull small groups for testing as needed 
  • Extrapolate lesson plans (This includes: organizing testing materials, organizing lesson materials and supplements weekly) 
  • Organize, file, and other clerical tasks related to the IEP process (Mailing, filing, front loading data entry, distribution and collection of paperwork) 
  • Push-in to general education classes to support students depending on caseload needs and scheduling





Requirements

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  •  1 or more years of work with elementary students, students with learning disabilities, and/or paraprofessional support. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

  • None required

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated skill in handling children and adolescents.
  • Ability to diffuse and manage stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Knowledgeable in Colorado School Law, Authorizer policies, The Academy mission, philosophies, policies and administrative procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.


MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Ability manage a small group of students to maximize learning outcomes
  • Willingness to collaborate and communicate regularly with teachers across grade levels
  • Willingness to be flexible and responsive to student and school needs 
  • Ability to be present and punctual on a consistent basis :
  • Basic knowledge of school rules and expectations
  • Basic knowledge of appropriate supervision of students
  • Basic knowledge of google Apps (calendar, gmail, docs) 
  • Ability to quickly learn educational software programs

Salary Description
$20.00 hour based on work experience
