Canterbury Court is looking for a Garden Assistant to join our family. This is a full-time position located in the Plant Operations division of our Life Plan Community (LPC). We invite you to experience Canterbury Court.

Job Summary
The Garden Assistant is responsible for assisting the Garden Manager with daily upkeep and maintenance of the gardens and grounds to provide consistency and excellence in each. This role is hands-on, requiring year-round outdoor work in all weather conditions. The Garden Assistant works under the supervision of the Garden Manager while also working autonomously with residents and other staff members. The Garden Assistant is the responsible party in the absence of the Garden Manager and may be provided with additional leadership responsibilities at the discretion of the Garden Manager.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with landscape management and restoration of all landscaped grounds as directed by the Garden Manager, including but not limited to weeding, pruning/trimming of trees and shrubs, perennial cleaning, deadheading, mulching, etc.
- Transplant and fertilize small trees and shrubs using a detailed schedule as directed by the Garden Manager.
- Identify and treat potential pests or diseases.
- Oversee and coordinate the care of the greenhouse, including cleaning, organizing, and maintaining equipment as needed.
- Work with resident gardeners on their independent gardens as directed by the Garden Manager.
- Must have experience in landscape maintenance/management as well as working with various types of plants, especially those commonly used in landscapes in the Southeast.
- Must be willing to do hands-on gardening at all skill levels as well as work with older resident gardeners as needed. While reasonable horticultural knowledge including plant identification and best practices is preferred, extensive training will be provided by the Garden Manager provided all other job qualifications/expectations are met.
- At least two years of experience in the landscaping/ gardening field with team engagement preferred.
- Must be able and willing to perform duties inside and outside when necessary.
- Must possess leadership and organizational skills and the ability to accept responsibility.
- Must be patient, honest, and possess good judgment, tact, compassion, and integrity.
