Maintain City Parks and related properties. Provide citizens with clean, safe and well cared recreational facilities. Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks on grounds, equipment, facilities, parks and other assigned areas. Employee may also assist in other Departments as assigned by supervisor.
- Schedule: 40 hours a week, 6 hours - 7 days a week. *Maybe required to work some nights and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Park Worker 1
- Perform mowing, weeding, spraying of turf areas.
- Perform litter pick-up as needed.
- Perform impact material maintenance in playgrounds.
- Perform minor repair of irrigation systems (Granger Park only).
- Perform weeding, mulching, and planting of flower and shrub beds.
- Perform maintenance duties on physical facilities such as: pavilions, restrooms, score towers, fences, fountains, picnic tables, benches, and playgrounds.
- Perform maintenance duties on power equipment, storage areas, and any other equipment used in the operation and maintenance of parks.
- Operate machinery, mowers, trucks, etc.
- Use a variety of hand tools, including shovels, rakes, wrenches, etc.
- Must be able to push and pull 50 lbs.
- Maintain a clean pavilion in assigned park, including: spraying/sweeping floor, cleaning tables, etc.
- Ensure lights and power are on in pavilion as per reservation request.
- Pick up garbage/litter through park as needed
- Clean restrooms – if applicable- including: toilets, sinks, floors, walls etc.
- Restock toilet paper as needed.
- Wheel out garbage cans for emptying, on appropriate day.
- Assist full time staff as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Park Worker 2
- Perform mowing, weeding, spraying and fertilizing of turf areas.
- Perform repair and construction of irrigation systems.
- Perform tree trimming, spraying, fertilizing, and general care.
- Perform maintenance duties on physical facilities such as: pavilions, restrooms, score towers, fences, fountains, picnic tables, benches, and playgrounds.
- Perform maintenance duties on power equipment, trailers, trucks, shops, storage areas, and any other equipment used in the operation and maintenance of parks.
- Assist in directing the summer workers and crews.
- Acts in the stead of Parks Superintendent as assigned.
- Assist in the development of budgets and prioritizing Parks and grounds needs. Assist in coordinating landscape maintenance and construction duties.
- Responds to or causes response to emergency calls on a 24-hour basis.
- Lift, carry, travel and climb ladders.
- Enter and exit underground vaults.
- Perform snow removal duties, including clearing of walks with shovels and/or snow blowers, applying salt and/or icemelter, and clearing of city owned parking lots with snowplows.
- Operate machinery, mowers, trucks, backhoes, etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Exercises supervision over summer workers and crews as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Park Worker 1
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Parks or Grounds Maintenance and/or equivalent experience in construction or industrial settings is required.
Park Worker 2
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Parks or Grounds Maintenance and/or equivalent experience in construction or industrial settings is required
Language Skills
- Must be able to communicate in English and have basic writing skills.
Mathematical Skills
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid Utah driver's license or ability to obtain one.
Park Worker 2
- Possess a valid Utah Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL), or be able to obtain one within six months
- Must have a total of at least two separate certifications relating to job:
- Forklift Operator,
- Loader Operator,
- Backhoe Operator,
- Pesticide Applicator,
- Playground Inspector,
- Certified Nurseryman,
- Certified Arborist,
- Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor,
- Certified Backflow Technician,
- Sports Field Managers Certification, or others as approved.

This position is frequently subject to extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow and wind.
Frequent exposure to dust, fumes and dirty conditions as is typical of a shop and park environment.
Employee will be subject to moderate noise levels and exposure to moderate physical hazards in performing projects and in maintenance work. Also, exposure to intermittent stress due to human behavior and job tasks may be experienced. Employee will need to be on his/her feet and walking for extended periods. Employee must be able to deal with the public in a business-like manner, always remembering that he/she is a representative of West Valley City.
