Summary:
The Senior Accountant – Payroll & Financial Operations is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the Firm, including general accounting functions, payroll administration, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and process improvement initiatives. This position ensures the timely and accurate processing of payroll, maintains the integrity of financial records, and assists with the preparation of monthly and year-end financial reporting.
The Senior Accountant will continually assess accounting and payroll processes and collaborate with internal management to improve operational efficiency and accuracy. This blended role incorporates accounting and payroll responsibilities while serving as a key resource for employees and management regarding payroll-related matters.
Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare timely monthly workpapers that reconcile balance sheet and income statement account balances to subsidiary and general ledgers and account statements. Identify and resolve issues in the ledgers to ensure accurate monthly reports and analysis for Partner review.
- Review and oversee the general daily accounting for accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries and file maintenance. Work closely with overseas colleagues to identify and resolve issues and ensure timely and accurate payments and deposits.
- Record and maintain fixed asset purchases and dispositions and depreciation expense.
- Review and maintain documentation for investments, loans, partner payments, including calculating and posting journal entries to accurately report monthly balances.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with accounting software by serving as the primary contact to vendors, initiating and following up to ensure timely resolution.
- Evaluate accounting processes and internal controls and recommend process improvements
- Assist with the compilation and analysis of year-end financial information in preparation of reporting to external parties and internal management.
Payroll Administration
- Prepare and process accurate and timely bi-monthly payroll using Paylocity or similar payroll systems.
- Reconcile payroll earnings, deductions, and changes for approval prior to submitting bi-monthly payroll. Ensure deductions reconcile to providers' monthly invoices, identify discrepancies, and follow up with Paylocity & providers for prompt corrections.
- Respond to employee and management inquiries regarding payroll matters and resolve issues promptly.
- Assist with payroll audits, reporting requirements, and year-end payroll activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in accounting, finance, payroll administration, or a related role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, payroll processes, financial reporting, and month-end close procedures.
- Experience with payroll and accounting systems; experience with Paylocity, Sage Intacct, Yooz, Emburse, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate data and make informed decisions.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
