Our Game Plan
The New York Islanders Hockey Club is one of the most iconic franchises in professional sports, with a deeply passionate and loyal fan base that is second to none. Built on a Dynasty in the 1980’s with four straight Stanley Cup Championships and 19 consecutive playoff series wins, our history has defined a legacy that remains untouched in professional sports. That legacy inspires us to leave our mark in the sports, entertainment, and cultural landscape.
In 2021, the New York Islanders moved to our new permanent home, UBS Arena. This state-of-the-art venue, which was built for hockey and made for music, is nestled within the historic Belmont Park – a storied landmark of New York. UBS Arena features best in class facilities and amenities, including premium suites, clubs, and lounges that offer boutique hospitality to elevate the guest experience. UBS Arena is part of a larger redevelopment project at Belmont Park, which aims to transform the area into a vibrant entertainment destination with the opening of Belmont Park Village in 2024 and the new Belmont Park Racetrack in 2026.
How to Make the Team
We are hiring our Ice Crew for a part-time role, reporting to our Entertainment & Production Specialist! If you have a ‘can-do’ attitude, excellent skating abilities, a devotion to your craft, and a passion for sports, we want to hear from you.
Ice Crew members are a diverse group of men and women who will serve as skaters for all home games and additional events throughout the 2026-2027 season. Ice Crew members are experienced skaters whose duties will include shoveling the ice during TV timeouts, engaging in fan activations during intermissions, and executing other duties as assigned. All applicants must attend Ice Crew tryouts on August 25th, 2026 to be considered.

Location: Northwell Health Ice Center
Date: Tuesday, August 25th, 2026
Time: 6:00–8:00 p.m
**Arrive by 5:30 p.m. for check-in**
Show Us You Can
- Attend all NYI home games; attend additional events upon request
- Skate comfortably with and around teammates
- Multi-task in a fast-paced, stressful environment
- Be spontaneous and react quickly when necessary
- Adhere to all New York Islanders and NHL guidelines and policies, including wearing appropriate attire at all times while in the arena
Your Training & Talent
- Strong ability to skate; hockey experience and/or knowledge is a plus
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, i.e., nights and weekends
- Ability to mobilize quickly and for long durations
- Knowledge of the New York Islanders and Long Island
- Awareness and understanding of the rules of the National Hockey League
- Strong work ethic and personal integrity
Where You’ll Go
- You will be working game nights and must be available to attend all home games
- Additional team events may be required and assigned by NYI management. (Game nights and events can fall on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays)
What Skills You’ll Use
- Skating: Extensive ability to skate and stop
- Accountability: Taking ownership of game time responsibilities
- Punctuality: Arrive at least 2 hours prior to puck drop, in uniform, to review and rehearse all material as assigned
- Attention to Detail: Ability to follow directions and fulfill assignments promptly, including set-up and clean-up of all required equipment and materials
