Zwicker is currently seeking a VP of Counterclaim Litigation to join our team. We are seeking a highly adaptable litigation attorney to handle cases across multiple states and manage litigation attorneys within the team. You will manage cases from inception through trial, requiring travel for court appearances. The ideal candidate holds multiple active bar licenses and can rapidly secure admission in new jurisdictions. The position will act as lead counsel of select high-risk proceedings pending across the country for one of the firm’s largest clients and will participate and/or collaborate with local counsel in all stages of litigation proceedings, including motion practice, discovery, depositions, and trials.
The salary range for this role is $150,000-$200,000, plus applicable bonus. This position is fully remote, work from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Cross-Border Litigation: Manage a robust caseload spanning multiple states and jurisdictions.
- Frequent Travel: Travel to attend in-person hearings, depositions, arbitrations, and trials.
- Jurisdictional Expansion: Proactively obtain admission to additional state bars via waiver (motion) as business needs dictate.
- Pro Hac Vice Admissions: Secure local counsel and file for pro hac vice admission in temporary jurisdictions.
- Case Management: Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and comprehensive trial briefs.
- Courtroom Advocacy: Present oral arguments, conduct witness examinations, and lead trial teams in diverse courts.
- Team Leadership: Develop and execute client-specific litigation strategies at the direction of the Vice President of Litigation Operations and General Counsel. Develop and manage guidelines, plans, procedures, and processes for the Counterclaim Litigation Group to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of legal services to the firm. Provides litigation skill set mentorship and training to attorneys within the Counterclaim Litigation Group.
- Communication: Effectively communicate with the client, internal firm management, and the firm’s nationwide network of local trial attorneys. Appropriately keep the Vice President of Legal Operations and General Counsel abreast of legal trends and challenges, and effectively recommend appropriate action as required.
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Active, good-standing bar admission license in multiple states.
- Waiver eligibility: Meet reciprocity requirements to waive into additional designated state bars.
- Minimum of 6-8 years of progressive civil litigation experience, including trial work, with 5 years at the senior management or executive level, preferably in a similarly complex organization with demonstrated leadership of a litigation team. The preferred candidate will have advanced civil litigation experience and will have successfully prosecuted both bench and jury trials to completion.
- Experience serving as primary legal counsel to senior attorneys, recommending appropriate action as required.
- Adaptability: Deep understanding of civil procedure rules and court customs.
- Independence: Ability to work highly effectively while traveling or working remotely.
- Communication: Strong networking skills to build immediate rapport with local counsel.
- Be able to operate a computer, phone, or equivalent device.
