Machinist
Description

  Compressor Turbine Services is looking for a Machinist to join their team!


Machine Setup and Operation:

  • Set up and operate manual lathes (horizontal and vertical), mills, VTLs/Bullards, drill presses, grinders, and other equipment.
  • Perform operations such as: turning, boring, facing, threading, milling, drilling, reaming, tapping, grooving, slotting, and grinding.
  • Select and install proper tooling, fixtures, attachments, and materials for each job.

Blueprint and Specification Interpretation:

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, sketches, work scopes, and verbal instructions.
  • Perform shop calculations for dimensions, tooling, feeds/speeds, and part geometry.

Precision Machining and Repair:

  • Machine, modify, or fabricate new/replacement parts for rotating equipment components (e.g., shafts, sleeves, impellers, diaphragms, casings).
  • Work to close tolerances (often +/- 0.0005”) and high-quality standards for balance, fit, and performance in high-speed rotating applications.

Measurement and Inspection:

  • Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, etc.) to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet specs.
  • Document measurements, deviations, and quality records.

Maintenance and Shop Support:

  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and cleaning on machines and tools.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make on-the-fly adjustments.
  • Assist with disassembly, repair, and reassembly of equipment when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Additional Tasks:

  • Layout and plan complex jobs.
  • Handle rigging and material movement (forklifts, cranes).
  • Work on custom/low-volume or one-off repair jobs rather than high-production runs.


Requirements
  • Experience in the turbomachinery industry 
  • Ability to work in a industrial environment and possess their own manual machinist tools.
  • Specialty tooling will be provided by the company
