POSITION TITLE: Volunteer Mentor

DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern OH & Western PA (BBBS)

LOCATIONS: Portage, Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana & Jefferson Counties, OH; Mercer County, PA

REPORTS TO: BBBS Program Staff

SCHEDULE: Determined on a case-by-case basis

SUMMARY:   

The volunteer builds a positive, supportive relationship with a child by spending consistent time together. Responsibilities dependent upon the program assignment and may include but not limited to:

• Serve as a role model, listener, and offer encouragement
• Be dependable and committed to maintaining regular contact with the child
• Participate in activities that support the child's growth and interests
• Provide transportation for match activities, following BBBS safety guidelines
• Support the child in setting and working toward goals
• Track the child’s growth and progress over time
• Maintain regular communication with BBBS staff

 ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITES: 

• Provide regular and consistent coverage for assignments.
• Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
• Duties as assigned.

• Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals.
• Work as an effective team member.
• Ability to work independently and without supervision.
• Customer service experience either through employment or volunteer services if applicable.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office programs if applicable.
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability if applicable.
• Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification &      Investigation) if applicable.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Dependent upon assigned program.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Based on program requirements.
