Description

The Director of Competition is a key leadership role responsible for competitive product oversight, operational excellence, communication strategy, publisher relationships and the execution of all NACE competitive leagues. This role is also responsible for the planning and execution of all NACE LAN events, and oversight of the NACE competition platform. As the largest varsity collegiate esports organization in North America, NACE requires a visionary and organized leader to manage the complexities of NACE’s evolving competitive ecosystem. This role directly oversees the NACE Head Admin and the Tournament Official staff (Approximately 7 part-time staff). 


Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Oversee all aspects of day-to-day league operations, tournament structures, and competitive scheduling. 
  • Develop and execute a robust competition communications strategy to promote student and staff education. 
  • Formulate and execute a member-centric, mission-aligned strategic vision for competition product evolution. 
  • Directly manage, mentor, and oversee the Head Admin and Tournament Official staff. 
  • Lead the end-to-end planning, logistics, and operational execution for all NACE LAN events. 
  • Manage conferencing structures and oversight of the NACE self-select program. 
  • Act as the primary liaison with game publishers to secure licensing rights, manage publisher program requirements, and advocate for member interests. 
  • Supervise the enforcement of the NACE Rulebook(s) and act as the final arbiter for enforcement decisions. 
  • Drive optimization of the NACE competition platform and establish administrative workflows to streamline the platform experience for students, staff, conferences and NACE tournament officials. 
  • Manage and steward the NACE Competition Council, overseeing governance of rulebooks, league policies, and appeal processes. Serve as the lead evangelist for NACE varsity standards, driving institutional alignment on eligibility requirements, campus official oversight, and the importance of in-person play. 



Requirements

 Required Skills/Abilities


  • Minimum 3–5 years of leadership experience in professional or collegiate esports.
  • Proven leadership ability to manage, scale, and motivate a competitive operations team.
  • Experience operating on esports competition platforms at scale and leveraging relevant competition tools. 
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, to support live operations.
  • Deep strategic and competitive operational knowledge of major collegiate titles (e.g., League of Legends, Overwatch, Super Smash Bros., VALORANT, Call of Duty, Rocket League, Marvel Rivals).
  • Strong relationship management skills for working with game publishers and higher education stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute live, high-stakes esports events and tournament logistics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong crisis and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to manage and participate in travel for events and live championships as needed.
  • Good working knowledge of email/communication systems and word processing/spreadsheet/presentation tools, including Google Workspace, Discord, and Twitch.
  • Ability to lead complex projects within a collaborative team environment of stakeholders with varying interests.
