Description

  

Essential Functions
Applies plaster and fiberglass casts, splints, braces, slings, collars, air splints, and other Orthopedic devices.

Assists office staff with patient flow and assists with dressing changes and removal of sutures.

Removes casts and other appliances.

Fits and instructs patients in the use of braces, crutches, canes, walkers, and other appliances.

Supervisory Responsibility
none

Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work in an outpatient clinical setting with presence of physical barriers, some exposure to heat producing equipment, and some exposure to radiation and vibration.

Must be able to support limbs, even in awkward positions, for up to 30 minutes. Work with patients who are distressed due to pain or other factors. Able to operate a variety of small hand tools and appliances.

Travel
No travel is expected for this position other than occasional travel to corporate sites regarding employee relations issues.


Requirements

  Required Education and Experience 

Completion of a Medical Assistant program (or medical military training).

Two years experience as an Orthopedic Technician.  

Certified as a Medical Assistant or Certified as an Orthopedic Technician (NBCOT issued OTC Certification) within 3 months of employment is required. Must maintain necessary continuing educational requirements necessary to maintain certification.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
CPR certification to be completed within three months of employment.
