The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for providing assistance to the Accounting Manager while maintaining financial procedures and confirming financial compliance within the finance department. The Staff Accountant performs the essential functions of the position noted below, while meeting the quality and service standards developed by the agency.
Essential Functions:
- Reconciles bank accounts, at minimum weekly.
- Manage Accounts Receivable process and collections.
- Manage Fixed Asset process, including additions, disposals, reconciliation, and yearly physical inventory.
- Complete assigned Balance Sheet reconciliations, including, but not limited to:
- Prepaid Expenses
- Straight Line Rent Accrual
- Vendor & Premium Payable
- Direct Bill Receivable
- Review general ledger details to ensure proper posting to accounts.
- Prepare and submit yearly Personal Property Tax reports.
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including payroll.
- Support yearly 1099 process.
- Provide analysis reports to Senior Management for review.
- Prepare documentation for internal and external auditors.
- Participate in efficiency improvement projects.
- Perform other accounting related duties as assigned.
- May be required to work additional hours during month-end reporting to meet company deadlines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interpret abstract information.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and achieve results in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Confident, self-starter who works well independently.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and multi-task.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting guidelines.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required. Advance coursework preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years accounting experience required, preferably in a shared services accounting environment.
- Previous experience with an Insurance Brokerage preferred.

- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. This includes repeating motions that involve the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Position may require the employee to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, ramps, and the like.
- High stress, fast-paced environment with a high volume of work to be completed daily.
- Limited physical effort required or exposure to physical risk. However, must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
