Primary Press Operator
Description

Job Summary:

The Primary Press Operator will safely set up, adjust, and operate primary punch press machines in a manufacturing environment.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Sets up and operates punch press machinery in accordance with prints and specifications. 
  • Determines the best method to set dies.
  • Produces the required quantity of parts within established specifications and tolerances.
  • Measures finished parts with precision tools, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications.
  • Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and maintenance.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
  • Assists with cleaning, inventory, maintenance, and housekeeping as needed.
  • May assist in material handling duties as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 


Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team.
  • Ability to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of and the ability to abide by applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use calipers, micrometers, and various other measuring tools.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in adapting setups.
  • Must work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have good basic math skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work with people in office, factory, and inspection as required.
  • Must be safety oriented.
  • Ability to maintain correct tolerances and quality specifications.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  
  • At least one year of related experience preferred.
  • Completion of on-the-job training may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Previous press operating experience or certificate is a plus.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds at a time. 
  • Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.  
  • Must wear safety glasses.
