Job Summary

Makes dimensional or mechanical inspection and tests of assemblies, sub-assemblies, units and components for size, to ensure conformance with quality standards. Performs floor inspection of first and subsequent piece parts. Uses a variety of precision measuring instruments and gauging equipment. May act as a lead person in a department. Offer solutions to inspection problems. This is a 2nd shift position with weekday hours 2:00pm - 10:30pm.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilize hand tools to perform first and periodic subsequent piece inspections.
  • Complete an inspection report to document results of every piece inspected.
  • Convert round drawing dimensions to planar layouts and perform blank layout inspections.
  • Verify and double check accuracy of new layouts.
  • Work with Quality, Engineering, and Operations to solve production problems.
  • Assist Engineering to perform investigation for any corrective (production) action.
  • Perform verification of measuring instrument accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and provide detailed information to operators on dimensional adjustments needed to meet customer specifications. 
  • Notify Quality Assurance Manager and Scheduling of potential containment needs.
  • Perform in-process quality audits. 
  • May be called on to provide direction/training to employees to ensure productivity, quality and safety.
  • Second shift only: Operate CMM machine. 
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • 1 year of metrology experience preferred.
  • Second shift only: CMM operator experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of hand tools, measuring techniques and computer operation including spreadsheet auto functions, formulas, and hyperlinks.  
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T is preferred. Provide routine correspondence (i.e. job routings, warnings, etc.). Ability to write and record detailed inspection reports and hold notices/containment documentation.  
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, provide oral instruction/direction and understand oral instructions.  
  • Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions. Ability to organize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to perform basic shop math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of all units of measure.
  • Knowledge of product lines, blueprints and templates.
  • Possess a high level of concentration and attention to detail.

Physical Demands

  • The ability to bend and carry up to 70 pounds a distance of up to thirty (30) feet.
  • The ability to bend and lift up to 30 pounds up to 4 times per hour.
  • The ability to stand and/or walk on concrete for up to eight (8) hours per day.
  • The ability to use hands to manipulate objects (i.e. hand tools, etc.).
