Ground Maintenance Laborer

POSITION SUMMARY

The Ground Maintenance Laborer is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety, and functionality of grounds and facilities assigned under the Okeechobee Waterways contract. This position performs a variety of landscape maintenance, groundskeeping, facility upkeep, and general labor tasks while operating equipment safely and efficiently. Employees are expected to work independently and as part of a team while providing exceptional customer service and supporting the mission of Gulfstream Goodwill Industries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Mow, edge, trim, and maintain lawns using commercial walk-behind and riding mowers, string trimmers, edgers, and blowers.

2. Trim hedges, shrubs, trees, and other vegetation to maintain a neat and professional appearance.

3. Plant, water, fertilize, and maintain turf, flowers, trees, shrubs, and landscaped areas.

4. Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.

5. Remove litter, leaves, branches, and debris from assigned properties.

6. Load, unload, transport, and organize equipment, tools, and materials.

7. Assist with repairs and maintenance of fences, signs, benches, gates, sidewalks, and other grounds-related structures.

8. Perform general cleaning of parking lots, sidewalks, facilities, restrooms, and work areas as assigned.

9. Conduct daily inspections of assigned equipment and report maintenance needs or safety concerns.

10. Operate equipment safely and follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.

11. Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties.

12. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

13. Provide courteous and professional customer service to clients, visitors, and coworkers.

14. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

· Support Gulfstream Goodwill Industries' mission and values.

· Attend required meetings and training sessions.

· Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and contract requirements.

· Assist with emergency response or storm cleanup operations when necessary.



Requirements

  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to follow written and      verbal instructions. 
  • Ability to work independently      with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to safely operate      commercial landscape equipment. 
  • Basic knowledge of grounds      maintenance practices. 
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work effectively as      part of a team. 
  • Reliable attendance and      punctuality. 
  • Valid Florida Driver's License      preferred or required when operating company vehicles. 
  • Ability to qualify under the      company's vehicle insurance policy when driving is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand and walk for      extended periods throughout the workday. 
  • Ability to frequently bend,      stoop, kneel, squat, climb, and reach. 
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and      pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely load and unload      equipment and materials. 
  • Ability to work outdoors for      extended periods in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity,      rain, wind, and other environmental elements. 
  • Ability to work on uneven      terrain, slopes, and around waterway environments. 
  • Ability to perform repetitive      motions involving the hands, arms, shoulders, and back. 
  • Ability to safely wear required      Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). 

  

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is performed primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to:

  • High temperatures and humidity 
  • Rain and inclement weather 
  • Dust, pollen, insects, and vegetation 
  • Loud equipment noise 
  • Moving vehicles and machinery 
  • Uneven ground and slippery surfaces 

Employees are expected to follow all applicable safety procedures and use required PPE at all times.
