Commercial Sheet Metal Superintendent I is responsible for maintaining an open, positive, and professional line of communication with customers, vendors, general contractors, internal customers, and trade partners.

The Sheet Metal Superintendent supervises employees and maintains a safe working environment compliant with government regulatory guidelines and OSHA Safety regulations on multiple projects simultaneously. This position requires travel.
Requirements

Job Responsibilities (List is not inclusive)

Project Start-Up and Planning:

• Review plans and specifications for the assigned discipline to understand project requirements and deliverables.

• Assist with the development of the project schedule, ensuring all tasks are accounted for and resources are properly allocated.

• Help determine staffing requirements, ensuring that the right personnel are assigned to the project for each phase.

• Ensure that all materials, equipment, and tools are available for the project start-up phase.

Scheduling and Coordination:

• Development of the SIPP (Short Interval Production Planning) 3-week schedules

• Help monitor and adjust the project schedule, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and that project milestones are met.

• Assist the General Superintendent with resource requirements and address potential delays or issues with staffing, equipment, or materials.

• Monitor and manage the material and equipment delivery schedules to ensure timely arrivals and avoid delays.

• Assist with managing subcontractors working for Coastal, ensuring their performance aligns with the project schedule and quality standards.

Project Procurement and Material Management:

• Coordinate rental equipment, tools, and stock material requirements for the project.

• Oversee the rental equipment process, including the return of equipment when no longer needed, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly.

• Support the management of prefabrication requirements and deliveries, ensuring prefabricated components are on-site and ready for installation.

• Track and manage inventory, ensuring proper staging and organization of materials on-site.

Project Administration and Documentation:

• Enter time and track attendance for field workers, ensuring accurate records of hours worked.

• Assist in updating project documentation, including plans, specifications, and change orders.

• Manage vendor receipts, packing slips, and bill of lading turn-ins for proper record-keeping.

• Lead weekly safety meetings, announcements, and coordination of safety-related tasks.

• Ensure quality control standards are met by reviewing test reports and ensuring proper execution of project quality procedures.

• Complete daily reports and sign-in sheets for accurate documentation of field activity.

• Maintain and update as-built drawings and ensure accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.

• Monitor and manage project inspections, coordinating with the authority having jurisdiction to ensure timely approvals.

• Attend general contractor (GC) site meetings and provide project updates and feedback.

• Maintain record of time worked on weekly electronic timecards for field personnel

Safety and Compliance:

• Enforce the company’s safety policies as well as those of the general contractor (GC) and construction manager (CM) on-site.

• Notify the Safety Manager of any special or critical safety tasks that require attention.

• Develop, review, and sign off on daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA) forms, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.

• Ensure that all personnel on-site have the appropriate safety certifications (OSHA 10 or 30 as required).

Project Close-Out:

• Manage the return of materials for credit and ensure that all unused materials are properly documented and accounted for.

• Complete and finalize as-built drawings for the project, ensuring all updates are accurate and reflect changes made during construction.

• Oversee demobilization of storage trailers and removal of unused materials or equipment.

• Complete punch lists and ensure all items are signed off as completed.

Training and Development:

• Attend in-house training sessions and ensure that field staff are trained on current policies, safety standards, and project-specific requirements.

• Conduct OJT’s )on the job trainings for field staff on topics relevant to the job.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and supervise field workers effectively.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Strong understanding of project scheduling, procurement, and administration within the mechanical contracting industry.

• In-depth knowledge of construction plans, specifications, and quality control standards.

• Proficient in construction management software (e.g., Viewpoint, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite.

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and field teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or degree in construction management or related field preferred.

• 5+ years of experience in the mechanical contracting industry, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role on construction projects.

• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, or piping systems in a commercial construction setting.

• OSHA 30-hour certification required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience as a Superintendent or Project Superintendent in mechanical contracting projects.

• Certification in construction management (e.g., PMP, CCM) or related field.

• Experience with managing large-scale commercial construction projects.

• Familiarity with project management software like Viewpoint or Procore.

• Entry-level Project Superintendent, overseeing smaller or less complex projects with direct supervision from the General Superintendent.

• Focuses on learning the full scope of responsibilities, including project start-up, scheduling, procurement, and safety management.

• Supports more experienced superintendents with daily tasks and documentation

Physical Requirements

• Required to stand, walk, and sit.

• Talk or hear, both in person and by telephone.

• Use hand (s) and fingers to handle or feel objects or controls.

• Reach with hand (s) and arm (s).

• Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 50 pounds.
