Schedule - M-F 5 am - 2 pm
Location - Onsite at South Sound Clinic and Mobile Units
The hourly range for this position is $36.05 to $39.42, with a midpoint of $37.74. New hires will typically receive between minimum and midpoint; however, offers may vary based on experience, internal equity, and market.

Job Summary
- The Lead SUDP (Substance Use Disorder Professional) is a senior member of the Counseling team within Behavioral Health and supports ETS’s mission by providing clinical mentorship, oversight, and operational support to the counseling program while maintaining a direct service caseload.
- This position provides coaching and support to counseling staff and serves as a resource for daily operational, clinical, and documentation-related questions raised by SUDPs (Substance Use Disorder Professionals) and SUDPTs (Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainees). The Lead SUDP functions as a designee and backup for the Clinical Supervisor as assigned.
- The Lead SUDP is responsible for delivering comprehensive, high-quality participant care in accordance with agency policies and procedures, as well as applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines. This role also supports program quality, compliance, and staff development through clinical oversight, mentoring, and coordination of services.
- The nature of this position is fast-paced and may involve working in high-stress situations, requiring strong mentorship and coaching skills, clinical expertise, and adaptability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Lead SUDP / Lead Counselor (In addition to all Counselor responsibilities):
Clinical Oversight & Documentation
- Review and co-sign all SUDPT clinical documentation and written correspondence to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with program and regulatory standards.
- Review ASAM assessments, treatment plans, discharge statements, summaries, and other clinical service notes in a timely manner and request revisions as needed.
- Monitor and track assessment completion and discharges to ensure compliance with program requirements.
- Coordinate and facilitate clinical case consultations
Program Operations & Scheduling
- Coordinate the schedule of group counseling sessions for program participants.
- Provide backup counseling coverage during unplanned staff absences as needed.
- Maintain timely and professional communication via Teams and email
Staff Coaching and Mentorship, Training & Development
- Provide mentoring, clinical training, observation, and ongoing support to SUDPT staff working toward Department of Health SUDP credentialing.
- Assist in the training and orientation of newly hired counseling staff.
- Participate in staff performance review processes as assigned.

Quality Assurance, Compliance & Audits
- Assist the Clinical Supervisor in preparation for program audits, including conducting participant chart reviews and compliance checks.
- Compile, track, and utilization, service delivery, and no-show data; communicate trends and concerns to the Clinical Supervisor.
- Monitor and track completion of staff peer chart and documentation audits and communicate status, trends, barriers, and concerns to the Clinical Supervisor
Leadership, Meetings & Administration
- Prepare meeting agendas, facilitate meetings, and complete related documentation as required.
- Attend scheduled Lead Counselor meetings and interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Serve as designee for the Clinical Supervisor when assigned.
Essential Responsibilities – Counselor (Applies to Lead SUDP in addition to Lead Duties)
Clinical Services & Participant Care
- Complete initial ASAM assessments and ongoing clinical assessments as required.
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions.
- Create, implement, and update individualized treatment plans.
- Provide timely responses to positive urinalysis and breathalyzer results in accordance with program protocols.
- Complete discharge statements and/or summaries for discharged participants.
- Provide treatment verification letters as needed.
- Provide telehealth counseling services in accordance with agency policy and regulatory requirements.
- Refer participants to Case Management and other services as appropriate.
- Follow up on missed doses and complete Outreach and Engagement activities as required.
- Observe participant urine collection for drug screen urinalysis when required.
Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation of all services and interactions with participants and external stakeholders.
- Complete all required state, agency, and payer documentation and reporting forms.
- Follow up on PointClickCare documentation and related system tasks as required.
- Ensure Outlook calendar and scheduling systems remain current and accurate.
Care Coordination, Collaboration & Team Participation
- Participate in weekly interdisciplinary staff meetings to coordinate and support participant care.
- Participate in case consultations to address clinical, behavioral, and other participant needs.
- Engage in scheduled clinical supervision for consultation, skill development, and support.
- Communicate and collaborate with other departments and external partners to coordinate care.
- Complete assigned peer chart and documentation audits accurately and within established timeframes
Regulatory & Compliance Expectations
- Consistently adhere to established agency policies, procedures, and documentation timelines.
- Protect participant privacy and confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Provide services under the supervision of a designated Clinical Supervisor and practice within the scope of credentialing and organizational policy.
- Seek consultation and supervisory approval as required for clinical decisions, documentation, and participant care.
- Maintain the highest standards of professional ethics and conduct in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional codes of practice.

Qualifications
Education and/or Relevant Lived Experience
- Current certification as a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) in Washington State.
- At least one (1) year of experience as a Counselor at ETS, or equivalent relevant experience as determined by the organization.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in substance use disorder counseling, including group and individual counseling.
- Experience in lead, coaching or mentorship roles within a clinical setting preferred.
- Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing and demonstrated experience utilizing it in a clinical setting.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation standards.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice and ongoing professional development.

Physical Conditions and Requirements
- The employee may be exposed to illicit drug residue, fumes, or other bio-hazardous materials when carrying out job functions. There is also potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens. ETS will provide employees with appropriate training to limit the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Policies and procedures are in place addressing each item specifically.

- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
