We are seeking a Computer Forensics Specialist to support digital forensic examinations, evidence handling, and reporting in support of investigative and legal matters. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience performing forensic collection, preservation, and analysis of electronically stored information (ESI) in alignment with forensic laboratory and ISO standards. This role requires strong communication skills to translate technical findings for attorneys, investigators, and case stakeholders. The specialist must be capable of independently managing complex or large-volume caseloads with minimal supervision. Hybrid opportunity based out of Washington D.C.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform forensic collection, imaging, processing, and analysis of computers, mobile devices, and digital media in a forensically sound manner.
- Maintain strict chain of custody and documentation throughout the lifecycle of evidence.
- Prepare clear, defensible forensic reports and present findings to attorneys, investigators, and leadership as needed.
- Utilize industry-standard forensic tools and methods to recover, examine, and interpret digital evidence.
- Support case teams by providing expert-level input to guide investigative or legal strategies.
- Ensure examination work complies with forensic lab quality assurance processes and applicable ISO standards.
- May be called to provide testimony or expert-level explanation of findings in legal or administrative proceedings.
Required Qualifications:
- Sole U.S. Citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
- Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science, Digital Forensics, Information Systems, or related field preferred).
- 10+ years of professional experience, including minimum of 5 years of current hands-on digital forensics experience.
Certifications (at least one required; multiple strongly preferred):
- CFCE, CCO, CCPA, EnCE, CCE, MCFE, ACE or equivalent forensic examiner certification.
Experience with core forensic tools, including:
- Cellebrite, Magnet Axiom, GrayKey, FTK, X-Ways, EnCase
Demonstrated experience in:
- Forensic imaging
- File system analysis
- Metadata and artifact analysis
- Evidence preservation and documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience supporting federal law enforcement, Intelligence Community, or litigation support environment.
- Experience providing briefings or reports to attorneys, case teams, or court officials.
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail, ensuring findings are thorough, accurate, and defensible.
- Professional communicator with the ability to translate technical findings into plain language for non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-visibility environments with minimal oversight.
The salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $150,000 annually. The exact salary offered will depend on your qualifications, experience, and alignment with the responsibilities of the role.
