Description

The Safety, 5S & Continuous Improvement Lead is responsible for supporting a safe, clean, organized, and efficient workplace across Bonnell Industries.

This is a hands-on manufacturing position that will work directly with employees and supervisors to improve safety practices, implement 5S standards, strengthen housekeeping expectations, and support continuous-improvement activities.

The position will serve as an important first step in building Bonnell’s future Safety and 5S team.


 Salary range: $72,800–$89,000, with higher compensation available for exceptional experience 

  

Safety

· Conduct routine safety inspections throughout manufacturing and operational areas.

· Identify unsafe conditions and work with department leaders to complete corrective actions.

· Support incident and near-miss investigations.

· Assist with safety training, toolbox talks, and employee communications.

· Support company safety programs, including PPE, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, forklift safety, and hazard communication.

· Assist with basic floor markings, signs, and safety controls as needed.

· Maintain safety records and corrective-action tracking.

5S and Housekeeping

· Lead the implementation and ongoing improvement of 5S practices.

· Establish practical workplace organization and housekeeping standards.

· Conduct routine 5S and housekeeping inspections.

· Help departments organize tools, materials, equipment, and work areas.

· Develop simple inspection forms, scorecards, and accountability processes.

· Work with supervisors to correct issues and maintain improvements.

· Promote employee ownership of workplace cleanliness and organization.

Continuous Improvement

· Support Lean manufacturing and process-improvement activities.

· Identify waste, workflow concerns, and opportunities to improve safety, quality, and productivity.

· Lead or assist with root-cause analysis and improvement projects.

· Support standardized work, workstation improvements, and better material flow.

· Track the results of improvement projects.

· Coach employees and supervisors on basic Lean and problem-solving methods.

Training and Communication

· Provide training related to safety, 5S, housekeeping, and continuous improvement.

· Support new-hire safety and workplace-expectation training.

· Communicate findings, action items, and progress to department leaders.

· Encourage employees to report hazards and submit improvement ideas.

· Maintain a visible and positive presence throughout Bonnell’s facilities.

  

INITIAL PRIORITIES

· Complete a baseline safety, 5S, and housekeeping review.

· Identify and prioritize immediate safety and housekeeping concerns.

· Establish simple 5S standards and inspection processes.

· Improve accountability for corrective actions.

· Develop safety and 5S training for employees and supervisors.

· Identify practical process-improvement opportunities.

· Help leadership build the foundation for a future Safety and 5S department.

Requirements

    

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Five to eight years of manufacturing experience in safety, 5S, Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, quality, or operations.

· Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

· Experience implementing and maintaining 5S programs.

· Working knowledge of OSHA general-industry safety requirements.

· Experience conducting inspections, identifying root causes, and managing corrective actions.

· Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work directly with employees and supervisors on the manufacturing floor.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in safety, engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, business, or a related field.

· OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification.

· Experience in fabrication, welding, assembly, truck equipment, or heavy manufacturing.

· Experience supporting multiple facilities or departments.

· Experience helping establish a formal safety or continuous-improvement program.

  

PHYSICAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

· Regularly works in manufacturing, assembly, service, warehouse, and outdoor environments.

· Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods.

· Must be able to bend, reach, climb stairs, and inspect equipment and work areas.

· Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds when needed.

· Must wear required personal protective equipment.

· Must be able to travel between Bonnell facilities as needed.
