Ready to keep our fleet moving? As a Fleet Care Technician, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring Core Transit’s vehicles are safe, clean, reliable, and ready for daily service. This hands-on role supports our operations by maintaining fleet readiness through vehicle servicing, cleaning, fueling, inspections, and coordination with our maintenance team.

This role is based in a mountain community with:

  • Cold and snowy weather conditions

 FLEET CARE TECHNICIAN

At Core Transit, we are committed to providing reliable and exceptional service to our riders. We recognize the vital role our fleet plays in achieving this mission and are seeking a dedicated Fleet Care Technician to join our team.

Fleet Care Technicians provide essential support by performing vehicle servicing, fueling, cleaning, fleet readiness tasks, and operational support. This position requires attention to detail, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to work independently while supporting a larger operations team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine servicing, fueling, cleaning, and washing of buses and automotive equipment. 
  • Clean bus interiors using hand tools, pressurized equipment, and power equipment, including floors, walls, ceilings, mirrors, carpets, and upholstery. 
  • Ensure assigned vehicles are pulled out promptly and buses are properly staged for upcoming service. 
  • Operate and park buses and automotive equipment inside and outside the maintenance facility. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. 
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding supplies, equipment concerns, and work-related updates. 
  • Perform janitorial and basic building maintenance duties as assigned. 
  • Monitor and record mileage, fuel usage, and fluid levels while maintaining accurate documentation. 
  • Check and refill multiple vehicle fluids daily. 
  • Follow all safety and security procedures while properly using equipment and materials. 
  • Report unsafe conditions, vehicle concerns, or operational issues. 
  • Replace and update bus brochures, schedules, decals, and QR codes as needed. 
  • Assist with fleet maintenance coordination and vehicle defect verification. 
  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. 
  • Represent Core Transit by demonstrating our mission, values, and commitment to the community. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • One to two years of related work experience preferred, or a combination of education and experience providing the necessary skills and abilities. 
  • Ability to perform routine bus and automotive washing, fueling, and servicing. 
  • Ability to safely operate light-duty vehicles, medium-duty trucks, heavy-duty buses, and forklifts. 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees and leadership. 
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete work assignments efficiently. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. 
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to remain calm and focused in stressful situations. 
  • Proactive attitude with the ability to identify tasks and complete work independently. 
  • Basic mechanical skills, including the ability to perform minor adjustments and servicing tasks. 

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. 
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record. 

PREFERRED

  • Previous fleet, automotive, diesel, transportation, or maintenance experience. 
  • Experience operating commercial vehicles. 
  • CDL Permit or CDL Class B License. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or be able to successfully complete Core Transit’s CDL training program within six months of hire. 
  • Must meet all physical requirements necessary to safely perform essential job duties. 
  • Must comply with company safety policies and applicable drug and alcohol testing requirements.

LOCATION & COMMITMENTS

  • This position requires you to work primarily during evening, night and early morning hours 
  • Primarily evening, overnight, and early morning schedules. 
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed. 

Mobility: Standing, walking, bending, stooping, crawling, crouching, climbing on and off buses, and moving throughout transit facilities.

Coordination: Using hands, arms, and equipment safely while performing vehicle servicing and maintenance tasks.

Strength: Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy materials (15-44 lbs frequently and occasionally 50-75 lbs).

Driving: Ability to safely operate buses and company vehicles for training, evaluations, inspections, and operational needs.

Vision: Requires close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Hearing & Communication: Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and through radio systems while responding to alarms, vehicle sounds, and safety concerns.

Endurance: Ability to maintain focus and alertness during extended shifts and changing weather conditions.


WORKING CONDITIONS

This position operates primarily in a fleet and transportation environment. Employees may work outdoors and are exposed to changing mountain weather conditions including snow, rain, wind, heat, and cold.

Work may involve:

  • Exposure to moving vehicles and equipment. 
  • Working around traffic and transit facilities. 
  • Exposure to noise, vibrations, and mechanical equipment. 
  • Walking on uneven, wet, icy, or slippery surfaces. 
  • Working in environments requiring safety awareness and attention to detail.
