Description
The Lab Technician will function as a member of the Laboratory team. This person will perform a full range of tasks related to laboratory testing, analysis, and equipment calibration.
The Laboratory Technician will report to the Laboratory Manager. This person will work a rotating shift (5am-2pm, 7am-4pm, 4pm-12am) which could include weekends, holidays, and on call. Overtime will be necessary.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing on samples, process streams, and finished products.
- Responsible for lab analysis by adhering to standard operating procedures and methods.
- Provide full laboratory support for plant operations.
- Report concise and accurate data in a timely fashion.
- Evaluate and communicate test results to plant operations.
- Support the laboratory’s Quality Management System.
- Record and maintain accurate records of analysis.
- Work effectively with team members to achieve quality and production goals.
- Receive and log in samples.
- Evaluate data and notice variations or trends.
- Maintain a record of reagent and standards in accordance with lab quality control procedures.
- Participate in internal assessments and regulatory audits.
- Prepare samples for analysis by extraction, dilution, blending, etc.
- Perform routine operation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting lab equipment and instruments.
- Perform general housekeeping of laboratory and cleaning of laboratory equipment daily.
- Assist with the upkeep of supplies and inventory.
- Perform data entry, communication, and documentation of test results.
- Understand and keep current with laboratory and safety methods.
- Assist with the training of new technicians.
- Dispose of retain samples and the handling of waste products.
- Must handle the replacement and movement of gas cylinders to supply lab instrumentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Management.
Requirements
Required
- Refinery laboratory or petroleum testing experience.
- Two -year associate degree in laboratory science (General Science, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry)
- Must be proficient in using computers and Microsoft Office applications.
- Must be able to safely work alone without supervision.
- Must be able to follow written procedures and scientific methods.
- Capable of prioritizing and multitasking to meet lab goals and ensure quality control.
- Must have math and reasoning skills.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field.
- GC and ICP experience.
Salary Description
$23/hour
