JOB PROFILE SUMMARY:

The Designer is responsible for the design and development of plastic injection molds using CAD software and engineering principles. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure mold designs meet customer specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and quality standards. The Mold Design Engineer plays a critical role in driving innovation and efficiency in mold design processes.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

The individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the job duties listed below.

Responsibilities:

  •  Design and develop plastic injection molds using 3D CAD software.
  •  Review customer part data and specifications to determine mold design requirements.
  •  Create detailed mold component drawings and assemblies.
  •  Collaborate with toolmakers, project managers, and customers to ensure design feasibility.
  •  Perform mold flow analysis and design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews.
  •  Support engineering changes and mold revisions as needed.
  •  Maintain accurate documentation of designs and revisions.
  •  Ensure compliance with industry standards and company procedures.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Work Experience:

  • 5+ or more years of related experience 
  • Knowledge of the injection mold building and injection molding is a plus.

Education:

  • Associate degree from a two-year college or technical school
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Experience with mold flow simulation software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with GD&T and engineering drawing standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  3D software experience. (Creo experience preferred)
  •  2D software experience. (AutoCAD preferred)
  •  Ability to take a mold design from concept through fully detailed drawings.
  •  Experience in unscrewing, multi-shot, stack, and high tolerance molds.
  •  Good communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  •  Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  •  Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  •  Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  •  Visual acuity for working with detailed drawings and CAD models.
Salary Description
