The Facilities & Maintenance Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, parishioners, and visitors at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy. This position focuses on morning building operations, light cleaning, trash removal, basic maintenance, safety checks, and coordination with the parish and evening custodial staff.
The Facilities & Maintenance Custodian plays a vital role in supporting the mission of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy by ensuring a clean, safe, and orderly environment where students can learn and thrive.
Work Schedule:
Monday–Friday
Additional hours may be required during inclement weather or special events.
Building Operations & Opening Duties
- Open the school building each morning and unlock all designated areas.
- Conduct a morning walkthrough to ensure safety, cleanliness, and readiness for the school day.
- Address urgent facility concerns before students and staff arrive.
Trash & Light Cleaning
- Empty trash cans in hallways, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
- Assist with cafeteria trash removal after breakfast.
- Empty cafeteria trash after lunch.
- Sweep hallway staircases and monitor high-traffic areas for cleanliness.
Restrooms & Water Stations
- Check, clean, and restock all bathrooms daily (toilet paper, paper towels, soap).
- Clean and sanitize all water fountains.
- Monitor restrooms throughout the day and respond to immediate needs.
Grounds & Snow Removal
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of outdoor areas.
- During snow conditions:
- Clear walkways at all entrances.
- Clear staff parking lot.
- Clear playground areas (may be completed later in the day if needed).
Maintenance & Safety
- Identify, address, or report maintenance issues promptly.
- Perform minor repairs when appropriate.
- Monitor playgrounds and front entrance areas for safety hazards.
- Coordinate maintenance needs with administration and parish staff.
Parish & Team Coordination
- Check in regularly regarding parish facility needs.
- Communicate maintenance or supply concerns to the Principal.
- Coordinate with evening custodial staff regarding building needs and supply restocking.
Weekly Responsibilities
- Wipe stair railings.
- Dust shelves, baseboards, statues, pictures, vents, and library surfaces.
- Clean windows according to schedule.
- Maintain a respectful, positive, and service-oriented attitude.
- Work independently and manage time effectively.
- Follow safety protocols and school procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a school setting.
- Support the mission and values of a Catholic educational community.
Qualifications:
- Prior custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
- Ability to perform physical tasks (lifting, standing, bending, snow removal).
- Basic maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school and parish staff.

Compensation:
Hourly rate of $20.00 - $27.00/hour
