McHale Landscape Design is a residential landscape architecture company and design-build firm dedicated to designing and constructing extraordinary residential gardens, pools, outdoor living areas, and home additions. Since 1981, the firm has designed, constructed, and planted residential projects throughout D.C., Maryland and Virginia, including more than 400 award-winning landscapes.
Primary Purpose:
The Maintenance Foreman is responsible for overseeing all on-site aspects of residential maintenance service contracts. The maintenance foreman will be required to operate a variety of tools and equipment to carry out specified job tasks. This position is full-time, reporting at 7:00 a.m.(start time can vary based on region) to the corporate office daily (Mon-Fri). This position requires Saturday work hours during peak season.
Essential Duties:
- Aid in the loading/unloading of trucks and trailers in the AM and PM
- Cut grass, trim edges, clean up refuse, blow trimmings and water turf areas and perform other lawn care duties as directed by Crew leader
- Move and install soil, mulch and plant material to assist with the construction of landscape gardens and related areas
- Operate power equipment including, but not limited to, lawn tractors, lawn mowers, line trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, pruning saws, sod cutters, chain saws, and snow blowers
- Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the day to day work activities of a landscape design-build crew of 2 to 5 employees
- Delegate job tasks to appropriate crew members to assist in the completion of the project
- Conduct on-site orientations with new employees and employees in new positions
- Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis
- Complete and submit all required paperwork on a daily basis
- Comply with all company policies and regulations
- Maintain and enforce standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, jobsites, and shop/yard areas
- Ensure that all work activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner, and that all crew members are in compliance with government and company PPE standards
- Enforce and work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations at shop/yard and on jobsites

Work Environment
- Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, and materials

- Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis

Travel
Local travel to more than one job or office location is required daily
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Maintenance crews between 2 and 5 employees
Required Education and Experience
- Minimum of 1-2 year experience in the landscape/construction industry
- Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
- Time management skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and DOT
- Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various landscape/construction practices
- Speak, read, and write in English
- Carry and use a smart phone or data-enabled device for communication and reporting
