St. Joseph Catholic Church in Livingston, Texas, is seeking a part-time Parish Catechetical Leader to coordinate and support parish faith formation programs for children and families. This role works closely with the Parish Pastor, parish staff, diocesan offices, catechists, volunteers, students, and families to foster a welcoming, faithful, and well-organized catechetical program rooted in the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.

Faith Formation

• Develop, coordinate, and implement the parish faith formation program for children in grades 1 through 8.
• Collaborate with the Youth Ministry Coordinator for programming serving youth in grades 7 and 8.
• Ensure a balanced program that includes catechesis, prayer, worship, social activities, outreach, and ministry opportunities.
• Organize summer education programs, including Vacation Bible School and related parish offerings.
• Collaborate with the Pastor to assess and address catechetical needs within the parish. 
• Recruit, train, and support catechists and other volunteers.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, catechists, volunteers, parish staff, and parishioners.
• Coordinate infant Baptism preparation and related parish processes.
• Assist all participating families in becoming registered members of the parish.
• Ensure catechists and volunteers remain in compliance with Diocese of Beaumont Safe Environment policies.
• Follow and uphold the Diocese of Beaumont social media policy.
• Attend workshops and diocesan meetings related to children’s formation and catechetical ministry.
• Work collaboratively with parish staff, diocesan offices and other volunteers. 
• Prepare content for parish communications, including bulletins, inserts, and social media platforms.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Sacramental Preparation

• Oversee sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist at St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Martin de Porres in Corrigan.
• Coordinate the purchase of catechetical and religious education materials.
• Plan sacramental preparation retreats in collaboration with the Youth Ministry Coordinator.
• Prepare and schedule liturgical services and receptions for First Confession and First Holy Communion in coordination with the Pastor or his delegate.
• Oversee catechetical programs for older baptized children or teens preparing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation in collaboration with the Youth Ministry Coordinator.
• Ensure sacramental candidates complete required paperwork and documentation.
• Maintain records of registration and participation in faith formation programs and activities.

The successful candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and able to faithfully represent Catholic teaching and the mission of the Diocese of Beaumont. This position regularly involves sensitive matters and requires discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Education, or a related educational field preferred.
• Experience in a Roman Catholic parish, school, ministry, or diocesan environment is preferred.

Language Skills 

• Strong oral and written English communication skills, including a clear speaking voice.
• Spanish-language communication skills preferred.
• Cross-cultural competency and the ability to serve a diverse parish community required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to faithfully represent the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel required.
• Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to remain professional in challenging situations, both in person and by phone.
• Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with parish staff, diocesan offices, volunteers, families, and parishioners.
• Familiarity with social media and technology for ministry communication and program implementation.
• Strong time-management skills and ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
• Professional demeanor and sound judgment.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry items up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs during the course of duties.
• Work is performed in both office and classroom settings.
• May be required to attend events outside regular hours and travel when necessary.
