PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Certified Athletic Trainer (AT) is employed by Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) and serves as the primary athletic healthcare provider for Warrensburg R-VI School District student-athletes. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and management of athletic injuries while promoting the health and safety of student-athletes. The AT will maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments, referrals, and tracking, for WHS athletes. This position serves as a liaison between athletes, parents, coaches, physicians, rehabilitation providers, and school personnel to ensure timely, coordinated, and evidence-based care. The Athletic Trainer collaborates closely with WMMC to facilitate appropriate treatment and return-to-play decisions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide comprehensive athletic training services for Warrensburg R-VI student-athletes.
- Assess, evaluate, and manage athletic injuries and illnesses.
- Develop and implement injury prevention programs.
- Provide emergency care during athletic practices and events.
- Coordinate treatment plans and rehabilitation programs.
- Monitor athlete progress and readiness for return to participation.
- Make evidence-based return-to-play recommendations in collaboration with physicians when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of injuries, treatments, and athlete encounters.
- Provide athletic training coverage for assigned athletic practices and competitions.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies during athletic events.
- Ensure emergency action plans are current and followed.
- Facilitate referrals to WMMC providers as needed.
- Communicate injury status and treatment plans with athletes, parents, coaches, school nurses, and healthcare providers.
- Assist families in navigating appropriate medical follow-up.
- Participate in multidisciplinary discussions regarding athlete care.
- Participate in community health education initiatives.
- Assist with sports physical events and injury prevention education.
- Represent WMMC at school and community functions as requested.
- Maintain required documentation and medical records.
- Ensure compliance with state practice acts and Board of Certification standards.
- Maintain athletic training supplies and equipment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Track program metrics and outcomes.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other essential duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid registration and licensure as a Certified Athletic Trainer by the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts with a minimum of a B.S. degree in Athletic Training from an accredited NATA certified school or have a B.S. degree that is “grandfathered in” from the apprentice program, according to the Missouri State Practice Act for Athletic Trainers.
- Missouri Athletic Trainer License (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required.
- Valid driver's license.
- Two or more years of athletic training experience preferred.
- High school athletic training experience preferred.
- Knowledge of electronic medical records preferred.
- Experience with injury surveillance and quality reporting preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
- Ability to kneel, bend, squat, and assist injured athletes.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to travel between athletic venues, in different towns/cities.
