The Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation & Ministry proclaims the gospel under the direction of the Director of Youth Faith Formation to lead and promote a parish catechetical program to families with youth grades 1 through 5.
1. Plan, organize and implement sacramental formation for 1st Communion, 1st Reconciliation & 1st Eucharist celebrations, parent
information meetings, and Eucharistic afternoon/sacred space tour experiences and 5th grade Confirmation preparation.
2. Minister to families with youth in elementary school, with a focus on engaging and activating the faithful for discipleship,
fellowship, charity and hospitality; including the Prayer Angel (grades K – 5) and Faith Friend (grades 2 & 5) programs.
3. Review & update lesson plans annually.
4. Schedule and maintain volunteer staff.
5. Inventory textbooks, teaching materials and resources for the program.
6. Offer input and suggestions on ordering materials and supplies.
7. Offer input in establishing & maintaining an annual Faith Formation budget.
8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor and/or Director of Faith Formation
9. Resource VBS Program, as needed.
Supervisory
1. Recruit, train & supervise catechists and volunteer ministers.
2. Provide regular in-service & formation for catechists.
3. Listen, counsel, advise, and visit with students, parents and teachers when classroom difficulties arise.
4. Identify older youth and parents within the 1st – 5th grades who possess leader skills and could be invited to join the volunteer
catechist team.
Spirituality and Prayer Leadership
1. Prepare, Coordinate and Plan regular prayer experiences, e.g. opening of the year, liturgical season, special weekly prayer within
classrooms.
2. Assist FF Team with planning & implementing seasonal liturgical family education events: e.g. Advent and Lenten Family Fairs,
Mardi Gras, etc.
Staff Responsibilities
1. Collaborate and Coordinate on a regular basis with Director of Faith Formation.
2. Partner with all staff team members to integrate Faith Formation into the life of the parish.
3. Attend regularly scheduled Parish/Faith Formation Team meetings to facilitate coordination of program
4. Maintain regular office hours.
5. Collaborate with Staff in preparing an annual comprehensive ministry calendar.
6. Attend all monthly Diocesan Leadership (CLADD), meetings & events.
7. Assist as requested with parish events
Skills, Knowledge and/or abilities
1. Demonstrate capability to carry out administrative and supervisory duties in an organized timely fashion, utilizing effective
communication and relationship skills.
2. Participate in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to keep current on trends in catechetical ministry.
3. Exhibit Working knowledge of Microsoft products and ability to learn parish database & software programs as needed
4. Proficient in public speaking and leading groups of people.
Education, Training and/or Experience
This position requires one of the following:
- BA in Elementary Education with minimum two years’ experience in catechetical ministry,
- Possess or willing to obtain Certification as a Master Catechist, Certificate of Ministry with an emphasis in Faith Formation or equivalent experience
Working Environment
This position requires evening and weekend work. The ability to lift and move items (up to 30 lbs.) and compliance with Diocesan & Parish Safety, Personnel Policies & Procedures
