AWHS Medical Receptionist Job Description
Job Summary:
Medical Receptionist plays a key role in creating a welcoming and positive experience for every patient. This position is responsible for greeting patients, managing front desk operations, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and providing administrative support to help ensure a smooth and efficient office experience for both patients and providers.
Reports to:
- Front Office Team Lead
- Practice Administrator
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Greet and check in patients while verifying demographics, insurance, and identification.
- Answer and direct incoming phone calls professionally.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments.
- Process patient payments and answer basic billing and insurance questions.
- Maintain accurate patient records by scanning and updating documentation in the EMR.
- Perform general administrative duties including mail distribution, document preparation, and other front office support
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of medical office procedures, administrative practices, and medical terminology.
- Working knowledge of patient accounts, insurance processes, and EMR systems (Epic preferred).
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with a patient-focused approach.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with patients, providers, and staff.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
- 2-3 years of previous administrative and clerical medical office experience.
- Experience using Epic preferred.
- Experience operating office equipment.
- Experience in customer service field.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer in a stationary position. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period of time.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer printer.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times and transport up to 25 pounds at a time short distances.
- Must communicate and comprehend effectively
- Potential stress if dealing with multiple tasks and staff members.
