About St. John’s Prep
St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Founded on the Xaverian values of compassion, humility, simplicity, trust, and zeal, we educate students to be, do and stand for good in the world. We enroll approximately 1,500 students from more than 90 communities in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Position Overview and Responsibilities
The St. John's Preparatory School Campus Safety Officer is responsible for the safety and security of campus community members and facilities before, during, and after the school day. Reporting directly to the Director of Safety and Emergency Management and collaborating daily with the Dean of Students, this part-time, hourly, non-benefited position runs during the academic school year (September 1 through June 5) for up to 19.5 hours per week over 5 days. This is an academic-year position subject to annual review and evaluation for renewal. Preferred working hours are in the afternoon to early evening, with occasional evening and weekend shifts available for school and athletic events.
Responsibilities & Duties
The School Safety Officer will:
- Maintain a high degree of visibility in assigned areas.
- Conduct personal surveillance of campus visitors to ensure proper display of visitor I.D. badges.
- Patrol buildings, grounds, and parking lots to observe unusual behavior and prevent theft or vandalism.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Director of Safety and Emergency Management or the Dean of Students regarding safety violations.
- Report emergencies and suspicious activity immediately to the Director of Safety and Emergency Management .
- Issue school parking violation notices and direct traffic as needed to maintain safety.
- Assist with bank deposits.
- Answer routine inquiries and direct visitors to appropriate campus locations.
- Assist school administration in developing safety procedures and stay current on accepted school safety practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety and Emergency Management, Dean of Students, or Principal.

Education and ExperienceRequired Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Certifications: Active First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (or the ability to obtain them within 30 days of hire).
- Background Check: Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check (including CORI/SORI and fingerprinting).
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in security, public safety, law enforcement, military, or campus safety.
- Youth Focus: Prior experience working in an educational, youth-oriented, or customer service environment.
- Training: Formal training in de-escalation tactics, emergency response, or conflict resolution is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
- Extensive walking and patrolling on campus.
- Ability to sustain a period of physical activity, such as running to respond to emergencies.
- Bending, lifting, pushing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
- Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
- Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR when necessary.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
