Position Summary
The Health Information Manager directs the day-to-day functions of the department in accordance with current local, state, and federal standards, guidelines, and regulations. This position serves as the Privacy Officer for Natchitoches Regional Medical Center and its subsidiaries. The Health Information Manager oversees all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to the organization’s policies and procedures covering the privacy of, and access to, patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws and the hospital’s information privacy practices. The Health Information Manager is responsible for this facility’s compliance with federal HIPAA regulations, including department-specific training for all associates of Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. may perform other duties as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Integrate the HIM service with the hospital’s primary functions. (60%)
a. Plan work, establish schedules, hire people, set objectives, train people, provide technical guidance to staff, assign duties
b. interprets /communicates policy
c. keeps CFO advised of work situations
d. implements policies
e. counsels associates
f. writes job descriptions
g. evaluates associates performance
h. develops budget
i. recommend sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to staff department
j. recommend space and resources including equipment needed by department
k. Monitor transcription, coding, incomplete medical records
l. Oversee completion of birth certificates and Release of Information
2. Medical Staff Credentialing (15%)
a. Responsible for processing of physicians and allied health professional applications for appointment and reappointment.
3. HIPAA (10%)
a. Responsible for coordination of compliance with the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act.
4. Chargemaster (5%)
a. Keep chargemaster current with CPT, HCPCS and Revenue codes.
5. Recovery Audit Contractor (5%)
a. Respond to requests from the Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) for patient records and appeal denials as needed.
6. Miscellaneous Duties (5%)
a. Performs miscellaneous duties as deemed appropriate, and when assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibility
Supervises all associates in the Health Information Management Department.
Required Education and Experience
1. Bachelor of Science in Health Information Administration.
2. Current certification by the American Health Information Management Association.
3. Minimum of three years prior experience in a management position in an acute care facility that is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
