Lifeguard
Reports to: Business Manager

Job Summary:
The Lifeguard ensures the safety of all guests during water-based activities at our waterfront areas. This position is responsible for monitoring guests, enforcing safety rules, and responding to aquatic emergencies. The ideal candidate is vigilant, calm under pressure, and committed to maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all beach and waterfront participants.

This is a flexible, event-based position, with scheduling driven by our event calendar rather than a fixed weekly schedule. Most shifts take place during morning and afternoon hours, primarily Thursday through Sunday. Event business peaks during April–May and September–November.

We do not host banquet events during June–August due to summer camp operations; however, summer lifeguarding opportunities may be available based on camp staffing needs. Other seasonal work may also be available for the right candidate, including shifts through general event operations or our fine-dining restaurant and bar during the winter.

Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor the beach and swimming areas during open-water activities or scheduled events
• Enforce facility and water-safety rules in a professional and courteous manner
• Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies
• Perform water rescues and administer first aid or CPR as necessary
• Inspect waterfront areas for potential hazards and report any issues to management
• Set up and break down beach safety signage and equipment before and after water activities
• Maintain rescue equipment, first-aid kits, and safety gear in clean and functional condition
• Provide guests with safety information and courteous assistance as needed
• Remain alert and focused while on duty, including while rotating between positions


Additional Responsibilities:
• Assist with setting up water-based activities, such as paddle-boards, kayaks, or inflatables
• Support general event operations as needed when not assigned to water-safety duties
• Participate in staff training and emergency drills
• Perform other duties as required or requested by management to support our operations



Requirements

Physical Requirements: • Ability to swim 300 yards continuously and perform water rescues • Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including sun and heat • Ability to remain alert for extended periods and respond quickly to emergencies

Qualifications: • Current Lifeguard Certification through the American Red Cross or an equivalent organization required • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required, with CPR certification completed within the past year • Prior lifeguarding or water-safety experience preferred • Strong communication and observation skills • Positive, team-oriented attitude • Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings
