We are Looking for:

 We are seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join our Dermatology Clinic. The Medical Assistant plays a supportive role in delivering comprehensive patient care that is safe, effective, and efficient. This position assists providers with medical and surgical dermatology procedures while ensuring an exceptional patient experience. 


Responsibilities:

 

  • Room patients and prepare them for examination.
  • Obtain and update the patient's chief complaint, medical history, medication list, allergies, and vital signs.
  • Prepare patient charts in advance of scheduled appointments and verify insurance benefits and referrals as needed.
  • Scan and upload patient documents, pathology reports, and outside medical records into the appropriate patient chart.
  • Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and prepared before clinic, between patients, and at the end of each day.
  • Assist the physician during dermatologic examinations, skin biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, incision and drainage procedures, and other in-office procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain sterile instruments and procedure trays.
  • Perform wound care and provide patients with post-procedure wound care instructions as directed by the physician.
  • Refill patient medications as directed by the physician and obtain prior authorizations for medications when required.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations for procedures, medications, laboratory testing, and referrals as needed.
  • Ensure referrals and insurance authorizations are current and documented in the patient's chart.
  • Follow up on patient calls and voicemails and accurately document all communications in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Educate patients regarding biopsy results, medications, wound care, laboratory tests, referrals, and treatment plans as directed by the provider.
  • Schedule follow-up visits, surgical procedures, and other appointments after the provider evaluation.
  • Process and distribute incoming faxes to the appropriate team members.
  • Maintain compliance with infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a dermatology clinic preferred.
  • Experience assisting with dermatologic procedures, including skin biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, and wound care is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of dermatology terminology, EMR systems, and medical documentation.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment while providing exceptional patient care.
  • Current BLS certification preferred
