Job Summary:
The Director of Client Billing Services provides strategic and operational leadership for the consulting firm's hospital billing operations, overseeing teams responsible for performing revenue cycle functions related to billing functions on behalf of health system and hospital clients. This position ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality billing services while maximizing reimbursement, improving client financial performance, maintaining regulatory compliance, and achieving operational excellence.
The Director serves as the primary operational leader for client billing engagements, partnering with executive leadership and hospital stakeholders to develop strategies that improve revenue cycle performance, standardize best practices, optimize workflows, and deliver measurable financial results. This role is responsible for developing high-performing teams, managing client relationships, and ensuring contractual service levels are consistently achieved.
This position reports directly to the Associate Chief of Revenue Cycle
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position will be responsible for supervising all department billing staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of hospital billing operations for assigned clients, including charge review, claim generation and submission, billing edits, billing compliance, claim follow-up, accounts receivable management, payment reconciliation, and revenue integrity initiatives.
- Ensure the timely and accurate submission of claims while maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, payer, and client-specific billing requirements.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on key revenue cycle performance indicators, including Clean Claim Rate, Days in Accounts Receivable, Gross and Net Collection Rates, First-Pass Resolution Rate, Aging by Financial Class, Billing Productivity, and Cash Acceleration Metrics.
- Identify trends, operational challenges, and opportunities for improvement through analysis of billing and revenue cycle performance data.
- Develop, implement, and monitor action plans to improve operational performance, maximize revenue recovery, and achieve established client and organizational goals.
- Collaborate with clients and internal leadership to review performance metrics, address operational issues, and recommend best practices to improve revenue cycle outcomes.
- Ensure revenue integrity by monitoring billing processes, resolving claim issues, and supporting continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Prepare and present operational reports, performance dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for leadership and client review.
- Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and workflow improvements to enhance billing operations and client satisfaction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.Build trusted partnerships with hospital executives, revenue cycle leadership, and department stakeholders.
- Conduct regular business reviews with clients to present operational performance, financial outcomes, trends, and improvement initiatives.
- Respond proactively to client concerns and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
- Collaborate with client leadership to implement new workflows, service expansions, and process improvements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop managers, supervisors, and billing professionals.
- Establish performance expectations and accountability standards.
- Promote a culture focused on client service, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, coaching, succession planning, and professional development.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and leadership development activities.
- Manage departmental productivity and staffing utilization.
- Ensure client contractual obligations and performance guarantees are achieved.
- Monitor revenue cycle trends and identify opportunities to improve client financial outcomes.
- Support business development activities by participating in client presentations, operational assessments, and implementation planning.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and regulatory billing requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of CMS regulations, coding updates, payer guidelines, and revenue cycle best practices.
- Develop quality assurance programs to ensure billing accuracy and consistency.
- Implement corrective actions for identified operational or compliance issues.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field required.
- In lieu of a bachelor's degree. A minimum of 15 years of directly related hospital billing experience, including at least 7 years in a leadership role may be substituted for the required formal education.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
