Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a Full-Time Assistant Health Services Administrator for the Suffolk County House of Corrections in Boston, MA


Responsibilities:


Human Resource Development and Management

  • Maintain communication between correctional and nursing staff, contract providers, outside agencies and the Health Service Administrator [H.S.A.].
  • Always ensure appropriate staff coverage for health services unit.
  • Anticipates staffing requirements to meet operational needs. Works to determine needs and deploy resources appropriately. When necessary, interviews and selects new hires to fill open positions.
  • Supervise and evaluate work performance of nursing staff and counsel employees found in violation of established policies/procedures and practices.
  • Monitor compliance with national and state standards, established policies, procedures and programs.
  • Monitor and evaluate physical safety environment of both patients and staff to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Prepare reports on the utilization of health care services as required.
  • Actively participate in Quality Improvement Committee and its activities.
  • Develop, monitor, and present in-service training programs, including orientation.
  • Monitor utilization of professional resources supplies and pharmaceuticals to ensure cost effective health care services.
  • It is an essential part of the job that CPS can ask the employee to work beyond his/her regularly scheduled hours.
  • Follow all security rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Operational Issues.

  • Ensures appropriate licensure and insurance coverage on all medical personnel.
  • Establisdatabasesh  from various logs to permit systems analysis and management projections. Complete and submit narrative, summary and/or operational reports as required.
  • Evaluate and recommend methods of improving operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Patient Care

  • Develop, revise, interpret and ensure compliance with policies, procedures and philosophy of Correctional Psychiatric Services [CPS].
  •  Monitor inpatient hospitalizations. Work with Medical Director to prevent inappropriate hospitalizations and to expedite discharge of unavoidable ones.
  • Supervise Quality Improvement Program including patient complaints, sanitation, infection control and development of appropriate criteria.

Schedule:

  • Day shift; however, will require flexibility based on business needs.

Salary:

$150,000 to $175,000 Depending on Experience 


Requirements

Qualifications and Education:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse, with 3-5 years’ experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Experience in administration of ambulatory care services.
  • 3-5 years of administrative/supervisory experience.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in short-term and long-term planning, budgeting and contracting.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move over 35 pounds.
  • Regularly able to adequately perform CPR.
