Gunfire Games is seeking a Senior Build Engineer to own and improve the systems, automation, and infrastructure that keep our development pipelines reliable, efficient, and scalable. 


You will work closely with programmers, artists, QA, technical teams, and IT to maintain and optimize build and integration systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and improve development workflows. This role will focus heavily on Unreal Engine, TeamCity, Perforce, build automation, continuous integration, and development infrastructure. 


This position may be performed remotely within the United States; however, the ability to work on-site in Austin, Texas is preferred.  


Who You Are: 

  • 5+ years of professional experience in build engineering, automation, DevOps, or a related role within game development or software development 
  • Experience supporting large-scale game projects and development teams, including at least one shipped AA or AAA title, preferably using Unreal Engine 
  • Strong hands-on experience with CI/CD systems such as TeamCity, Jenkins, or GitLab CI/CD 
  • Strong proficiency with scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages 
  • Experience working with both new and legacy Unreal Engine versions, with a focus on building pipelines and infrastructure, including Horde and Build Graph 
  • Extensive experience with Perforce administration, configuration, and optimization, including managing large-scale repositories and workflows; familiarity with Git or other version control systems 
  • Experience implementing, maintaining, and optimizing infrastructure and pipelines for automated testing, including integrating test automation into continuous integration and build workflows 
  • Experience managing large codebases and asset repositories within a game development environment 
  • Strong understanding of Windows development environments and build infrastructure 
  • Experience setting up and maintaining Unreal Engine services and infrastructure, including UGS, Zen Server, Virtual Assets, and similar systems 
  • Experience setting up and managing console-based build infrastructure for PlayStation and Xbox, including patches, hotfixes, and DLC builds 
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex build failures, integration conflicts, dependency issues, and infrastructure problems 
  • Experience performing root-cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions to recurring technical issues 
  • Ability to monitor and optimize build times, pipeline performance, and infrastructure utilization 
  • Experience developing automated validation, monitoring, reporting, and alerting systems 
  • Strong understanding of software development workflows and continuous integration 
  • A proactive problem-solver who naturally takes the lead when challenges arise and is comfortable driving initiatives from identification through implementation 
  • Ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and establish best practices for build, automation, and development infrastructure 
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with programmers, artists, QA, IT, and other technical teams 

Bonus XP: 

  • Experience building and maintaining cloud-based or hybrid build infrastructure using AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud 
  • Experience with distributed or remote build infrastructure 
  • Knowledge of C++ and/or C#, particularly within a game development environment 
  • Experience with automated crash reporting, build analytics, or telemetry systems 
  • Familiarity with containerization and infrastructure-as-code technologies 
  • Experience developing internal tools used by game development teams 
  • Experience optimizing build infrastructure for projects with large codebases and extensive asset repositories

Pay range: 130,000-180,000 Title level and base pay offered will be based on candidate’s skills, experience, and other professional considerations.
